Commonwealth Day, which proclaims 

the unity of 54 countries which were 

once part of the British Empire, was 

celebrated by CMS Gomti Nagar on 20 

March, 2010 with a lot of gaiety and joy 

at the branch auditorium. On this day, 

the message of the of the Head the 

Commonwealth of Nations, Her 

Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was read 

out. A huge gathering of parents and 

teachers witnessed the spectacular 

cultural programme that followed

keynote address at the Dignity and Human Studies Conference to be held

Today's societies are constantly seeking ways to improve their 

quality of life, and science and technology play a vital part in that 

search. 

Experimentation, research and innovation, mean that more 

opportunities for improving people's lives exist today than ever 

before. Take long distance communication, where the obstacles of 

time and geography have been dramatically reduced: people can 

now use mobile phones to be in instant contact virtually anywhere in 

the world, be it with a medical centre in the Himalayan mountains in 

Asia, a Pacific island school, a research facility at the South Pole, or even the international 

space station, beyond this planet altogether. 

Advances in modern telecommunications are also having a marked economic effect on 

people from developing nations in the Commonwealth, helping to transform small to 

medium-sized businesses. The internet is playing an important part in helping to nurture 

these fledgling markets but, as yet, it still remains an unaffordable option for too many of 

our Commonwealth citizens. 

Progress in the fields of healthcare, manufacturing, and education have, for the most part, 

helped improve people's lives throughout the world. In the health sector, the 

Commonwealth has shown how collaborative schemes can successfully assist member 

states to fight pandemics and diseases. 

In making these advances the Commonwealth recognises that the best forms of 

innovation are those that unite, and help build resilient partnerships and better societies as 

a whole. 

This is particularly important for the more than half of the Commonwealth citizens who are 

under 25 years of age. It is vital that their potential to build on the exceptional scientific 

expertise that exists in member states is also fully supported through education and social 

development. The Commonwealth understands this, and should continue to aid and 

encourage our young people to participate in the exciting new opportunities that lie ahead, 

in the knowledge that progress is something which must be sustained and shared by all.

PARENTAL GUIDANCE 

The only place where children love to spend as 

much time as possible everyday and feel relaxed is the 

playground. It is the place for them to enjoy themselves 

and socialize with other children. But parents can't take 

this for granted.As much as children are relaxed, parents 

have to be alert and cautious. If not enough safety is 

maintained and precautions are not taken, playgrounds 

are most prone for accidents to happen. 

There are several things parents should keep in 

mind while their child is on the playground. Children 

love doing the completely opposite of what they are 

actually supposed to do. For example, if a slide wants 

them to come down of their back, they would want to 

come down on their stomach. Or even worse, they would 

want to jump down. Parents should be around their kids

My cousin Vinay 

I was reading a book when I looked up. There in the 

window I saw… my cousin. His name is Vinay. He had 

come from London. He was knocking at the window as I 

was not able to hear the doorbell because I was reading a 

storybook with all my concentration.. My parents had 

gone out of station to attend my uncle's marriage and I 

was all alone in the house. I went and opened the door 

and asked him to come in. We were alone in the house for 

three days and we really enjoyed those three days. 

Vinay was promoted to the post of chief engineer, so 

he took me to a restaurant to give me a treat. From there 

we went to the malls in Lucknow. We bought lots of 

things from there. We enjoyed a lot in the mall. The next 

day I took him to my friend's house and we had plenty of 

fun there. The third and the last day we stayed at home 

and played all kinds of indoor as well as outdoor games. 

We played some games on the computer. And, for the 

first time, I myself cooked the food in my house and you 

can't even believe, it was delicious. Those three days 

were one of the best days of my life.As my holidays were 

going on, I was totally relaxed. 

We enjoyed a lot and didn't even realize that the 

three days were over. My cousin had to go next morning 

and I was very sad. My parents were also coming back 

that evening and I was very eager to tell them about the 

visit of my cousin. My parents came and I told them that 

Vinay had come in the morning and you'll not even 

believe what they told me. They told me that two years 

ago when he was coming from London to India, his plane 

crashed and he had died. They didn't tell me because he 

was a very good brother and a friend of mine and I would 

not be able to bear this. I was very tense and frightened 

too. So, I went to my room. I tried my best to sleep but I 

was not able to do so. So I started reading the last pages of 

my storybook to divert my mind. And you'll not be able 

to imagine that it was all going according to the story in 

my book…

A day when I became angry 

with my friend 

On Monday, I went to school in a very 

happy mood. I had bought a new copy 

and a costly pen. After our assembly got 

over we returned to our class. I found that 

my new copy and pen were lost. I asked 

my friend to help me in finding my pen 

and copy but she said she couldn't help 

me because she was completing her 

previous work. I snatched my copy from 

her as she was completing her work with 

my copy. While snatching the copy it was 

torn into two pieces. I shouted at her and 

she started fighting with me. We both 

became angry with each other. That 

night, I was not able to sleep. I thought 

that I would say sorry to her for my bad 

behaviour and give my copy to her to 

complete her work. Next day I went to 

school and said sorry to her and gave her 

my copy to complete her work. In the 

first period my English teacher came and 

gave me my copy and pen and said that I 

had left them in the staffroom. I thanked 

my teacher and promised myself that I 

would take care of my things.

Another essential thing is that you shouldn't leave 

your child with a stranger as they won't really take the 

responsibility. Remember, they would first think about 

themselves. If they have something else grabbing their 

attention, they would not consider your child, which is 

risky. 

A playground is an important place for every child 

as it helps his mental and physical growth. It is necessary 

for every parent to keep these safety precautions in mind. 

Don't avoid taking your children to the park with the fear 

of risk.Alittle stumbling is alright and helps your child to 

become strong and for further safety, you as a parent, just 

have to be a little careful.

An unforgettable incident 

During the Summer Vacations, I decided to visit my 

uncle, who was posted at Srinagar. I booked a ticket on a 

th 

flight from Delhi to Srinagar via Amritsar. On 26 May I 

boarded the airbus of the Indian Airlines at 9.00 am. I got a 

comfortable seat and soon the plane took off. I was 

enjoying the flight and did not even come to know when the 

plane landed atAmritsar. 

At Amritsar, six passengers boarded the plane. Minutes 

after the plane took off, we were served breakfast. We were 

all enjoying ourselves, when one of the passengers got up 

and took position. He had a hand grenade in his hand. Soon 

there was an announcement by the staff on board that the 

plane had been hijacked and that the passengers should not 

panic but remain calm. The two hijackers were terrorists 

from Punjab and wanted to take the airbus to Lahore to seek 

political asylum there. The pilot tried to persuade them but 

it was all in vain. They were determined to have their way. 

All the passengers were in a fix, for nobody knew what fate 

had in store for them. 

Having no alternative, the airbus flew towards Lahore 

but at Lahore airport the Pakistani authorities refused 

permission for landing. We hovered over the airport for 

about ten minutes but our pilots could not convince the 

airport personnel. At this the hijackers ordered the plane to 

be taken back toAmritsar. 

When we landed at Amritsar, the police had cordoned 

off the area and the Director General of Police was trying to 

persuade the hijackers to surrender. He was putting 

psychological and emotional pressure on them to surrender. 

After sometime, the situation became so tense that we all 

became desperate. This drama continued for three hours. 

Then suddenly the plane was overpowered by Black Cat 

commandos. Within seconds, both the hijackers were 

arrested and the passengers freed. Some of the passengers 

broke down and started crying. I just cannot express how I 

felt at that moment, but till today, whenever I remember this 

incident, I feel a chill moving down my spine.

An accident 

When I fell from my bicycle yesterday, my friend Mishika who was 

with me, ran to help me. I fell with full force on my left hand. It hurt so much 

that I started howling loudly. My mother was in the garden and came 

rushing out hearing my cries. She helped me to get up and walk back to the 

house while Mishika brought in my bicycle. My mother put some ointment 

on my hand. By evening, it was swollen and very painful. My father took 

me to Sushruta hospital and got an X-ray done. I had to wait outside while 

my parents were called in by the doctor. My mother told me that I had 

broken my wrist. The doctor was very kind and asked me to choose the 

colour of the plaster. I chose a bright red one. When I came home, my 

friends came to visit me and signed my plaster. My plaster was removed 

after a few months. Till then, I enjoyed the way my mother fussed over me.

No student likes rules and regulations. As students we all wish to do 

what we want and not do what our elders tell us. 

There are innumerable things which we like to do and to name a few to 

bring a video camera to school, shout and scream in the school corridors, 

go out of class after every period and roam outside, so on and forth. But I 

feel that all these activities will spoil our future, no sense of discipline will 

ruin us. This will also badly affect our personality. Rules and regulations 

play a very important role in making a student responsible, which is the 

key factor for success in life and I thank all the teachers and Principal of our 

school for framing rules and making us follow them, which will help us to

CMS Law Officer at International Conference of Jurists 

CMS Law Officer Mr S.L.Vaish warmly 

welcomed on return from Singapore 

Mr S L Vaish, CMS legal advisor 

represented the institution at the fourday 

'International Conference of Jurists' 

organised under the auspices of 

International Council of Jurists, 

Singapore, from 28 February to 3 March 

2010. The conference was attended by 

several Chief Justices, Judges, Law 

Ministers, legal luminaries and social 

activists from various countries of the 

world. The conference was formally 

inaugurated by former Prime Minister of 

Singapore Mr Lee Kuan Yew (father of the 

present Prime Minister) and presided over 

by Mr Justice Chan Sek Keong, the Chief 

Justice of Singapore. The Chief Justice of 

India Hon'ble Mr Justice K G Balakrishnan 

was the Special Guest of Honour. The topic 

of the conference was 'Global Warming and 

Rule of Law'. The conference was 

inaugurated on 28 February at the Lido 

auditorium of 'Star Cruise' ship. The cruise 

started its journey on that very day which 

ended in Thailand via Malaysia. All the 

sessions of the conference were held during 

this journey. 

Annual Mothers Day 

organized by CMS Station Road campus 

Annual Mothers Day of CMS, Station 

Road campus, held at CMS Kanpur Road 

auditorium on 7 March 2010 turned out 

to be a great success and parents were 

thrilled to watch the blooming and 

blossoming talents of their children on 

stage as they sang and danced. The items 

were greeted with loud clapping and 

applause by the eager parents and 

guardians. On this occasion, the CMS 

Founder and renowned educationist, 

Dr Jagdish Gandhi, honoured and gave 

way prizes, medals and certificates to the 

students for their outstanding success in 

the annual examinations and various

issues and suggested possible solutions. 

These children also interacted with the 

Hon'ble Governor of U.P. H.E. Sri B.L. 

Joshi. As part time archor, Naman is paid 

Rs 250 per sitting by theAkashwani.

Mobot wins first prize 

MOBOT, the robot designed by five 

talented students of CMS Mahanagar 

Campus II, namely Hari Om Yadav, 

Abhinav Sahu, Pranjal Dwivedi, Vinayak 

Mishra and Ajay Pratap Singh won the first 

prize at 'Pragyan', a Science Exhibition 

held at INDEX-2009 organized by IIM, 

Lucknow. Students of various reputed 

schools exhibited their technical 

knowledge at the Science Exhibition where 

these gems of CMS Mahanagar II 

presented their robot and won applauds of 

the audience comprising over 50,000 

people. MOBOT can recognize metal, run, 

sense hurdles, spy and is equipped with 

several other attributes. The audience was 

all praise for the robot. 

Memory Grandmaster 2010 

Saniya Zehra, Class IX student 

of CMS, Mahanagar Campus I, 

was awarded the 'Memory 

Grandmaster-2010' title for her 

excellent memory and 

outstanding merit. Saniya Zehra's name has 

been recorded in the 'India Book of 

Records' for her remarkable achievement. 

This meritorious student of CMS left the 

people awe-struck by her sharp memories 

in the memory contest. She was able to 

qualify 50 digits in less than 5 minutes, 50 

random words in less than 5 minutes, 25 

pictorial events and historic / future dates in 

less than 5 minutes.

Conference and Poster Making 

Competition was organized by CMS 

Gomti Nagar Campus at its auditorium 

on 20 March 2010. The celebrations were 

formally inaugurated by the Chief Guest, 

Mr R Ramani, IAS, Chairman, Board of 

Revenue, by garlanding the portrait of the 

Head of the Commonwealth of Nations, 

Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, of 

England. 

CMS has been celebrating the 

Commonwealth Day since for the past 

ten years with a view to create a climate 

of world unity, world peace, togetherness 

and brotherhood. The theme of this year's 

Commonwealth Day, as chosen by Her 

Majesty, Queen Elizabeth is 'Science, 

Technology and Society'. On this 

occasion, the message of Her Majesty, 

Queen Elizabeth was read out by the 

School of Management and received a 

participation certificate. 

Students of primary and junior section 

went to Dream Valley for a picnic on 21 

December 2009. On 11 February 2010, a 

Baby Talent Hunt Show was organized at 

the campus which was sponsored by 

Johnson 'n Johnson. 

GOMTI NAGAR CAMPUS 

Session ends with a yellow day 

An enthusiastic atmosphere was seen in 

the beautifully decorated corridors of

CMS Gomtinagar Campus on the 24 of 

February. This day marked the end of the 

session 2009-2010 for the Pre-Primary 

children. The children came dressed in 

yellow along with their favourite toys. 

The day began with the school prayer and 

rhymes and songs. The children were 

asked about the favourite toys they had 

brought to school and were asked to share 

them with their friends. After tiffin, 

children were engaged in different

enchanting presentation of World Peace Prayer and songs of 

World Unity. Students of class VIII sang Commonwealth song 

specially composed by the music teacher of CMS Mahanagar 

Campus III, Mr Leslie Scott for the occasion. Through this song 

an appeal was made to work for unity and peace by removing all 

mutual differences. 

An exhibition of colourful posters received from the 

students of prestigious schools and colleges was also put up. 

Through these posters the students have given expression to 

their innermost humanitarian and global view points. Their 

sentiments for world Unity and World Peace were quite explicit 

in these posters. Winners of the posters were honoured with 

attractive gifts and prizes. Students of class XI participated in a 

group discussion which comprehensively covered the 

contribution of science and technology to society emphasizing 

both its merits and demerits.

Kids display their talents on stage 

India is a peaceful nation. Its culture is full of 

virtues like non-violence, kindness etc. which are the 

most important qualities to make a nation peaceful to 

live. But now-a-days terrorist activities have become so 

common that we find it everywhere, in newspapers, in 

televisions etc. Today I, the glory and the heritage of 

India – "The Taj Hotel" stand here to tell you about the 

terrifying event that took place in me few months back.

I can't forget that date '26 November' the day when 

four terrorists killed virtually everything they saw in 

me — staff members, guests, young and old men and 

women. I felt a dreadful pain when they smashed my 

windows to throw bombs and shot the people passing 

by. Oh! My God, I still remember the helpless shrieks 

and shouts of the captured men and women. I wanted to 

help them but I was unable to do so. 

Besides myself my dearest friend Oberoi Hotel and 

Nariman House were badly injured. Though, today I

ANew Beginning 

The new session of pre-primary section 

began in March. The lobby had been 

decorated with balloons while a 

beautiful welcome board was put up. The 

teachers reached the school before 

schedule to ensure that everything was in 

place to welcome the children. Teachers 

applied roli tika on the forehead of the 

children. The parents were allowed to 

accompany the children to their classes, 

so that they could meet the class teacher 

and see their children's class. Parents of 

Montessori students were escorted to

have been reconstructed, yet the people who come 

here do not feel so comfortable as they used to. The 

favourite watery hole of the city's swish seat in me 

was charred beyond repairs after I had been blown 

up. Nothing was left in me. My first and the sixth 

floors were badly gutted. It was the deadliest 

terrorist assault on India. No one walked alive 

except a few. 

I don't understand what has happened to the 

Indians. Today, even a small child knows more 

about terrorism, corruption and violence than what 

peace is all about. It is erupting in an unprecedented 

shape in the world today. I personally feel, that there 

can be no peace without unity and we should all rise 

up and become united. If we want to make this earth 

a better place we must start now. So I urge you all to 

become the one to stop the terrorist activities.

Road and Station Road centres. The timings for these classes are 

as follows: 

Class XII 3 to 4.30 pm Class XI 4.30 to 6 pm
