1952 Dr. Albert Snoke establishes a formal<br />
Woman’s Auxiliary of Grace-<strong>New</strong> <strong>Haven</strong><br />
Community <strong>Hospital</strong> at the request of the<br />
Board of Directors.<br />
1953 Opens Carryall Coffee and Gift Shop, forerunner<br />
of today’s Atrium Gift Shop, as the<br />
Auxiliary’s first major fundraising venture.<br />
1962 Pledges $90,000 towards the construction<br />
of the Dana Clinic Building entrance.<br />
1964 Gains a seat on the <strong>Hospital</strong>’s<br />
Board of Trustees.<br />
1967 Helps establish, and currently support, the<br />
Child Life Program at YNHH.<br />
Pledges $80,000 to renovate pediatric unit.<br />
1970 Funds DART (Detection, Assessment, Referral<br />
and Treatment) program for abused children.<br />
1976 Introduces its “Jamie Goes to the <strong>Hospital</strong>”<br />
program for elementary school children to<br />
help diminish the fear associated with<br />

1982 Introduces TGIF summer concert series,<br />
now called Notes at Noon.<br />
1984 Completes its $250,000 pledge towards<br />
construction of the 1982 “<strong>New</strong> Facility,”<br />
now the South Pavilion.<br />
1991 Supports the construction of the Children’s<br />
<strong>Hospital</strong> at <strong>Yale</strong>-<strong>New</strong> <strong>Haven</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong> with<br />
a $500,000 donation.<br />
1993 Dedicates the Atrium, after having pledged<br />
$500,000 towards its construction.<br />
Creates the Toy Closet Program initially<br />
proposed by Channel 8 anchor, Ann Nyberg.<br />
1994 Establishes the Project Grants Committee<br />
to foster its continuing commitment to<br />
support special needs and projects<br />
requested by hospital departments.<br />
Joins with hospital staff to start the Toy<br />
Closet Golf Outing providing funds for<br />
toys, recreational, educational, artistic and<br />

<strong>Yale</strong>-<strong>New</strong> <strong>Haven</strong><br />
<strong>Hospital</strong> Auxiliary has<br />
contributed over $5<br />
million to support the<br />
hospital and its<br />
programs. Auxiliary<br />
Committees offer<br />
assistance, support and<br />
education in a variety of<br />
ways. The Atrium Gift<br />
Shop, managed by a<br />
professional team,<br />
supported by volunteers<br />
and overseen by the Gift<br />
Shop Committee,<br />
generates significant<br />
revenues that support<br />
Auxiliary projects. The<br />
Toy Closet program<br />
sends children home from<br />
their hospital stay, day<br />
surgery or clinic visit<br />
with a new toy. Health<br />
education lectures<br />
provide educational<br />
information to the<br />
community expertly<br />
delivered by noted<br />
YNHH healthcare<br />
professionals. The Project<br />
Grants Committee has<br />
contributed over<br />
$675,000 to departments<br />
for special projects and<br />
distinctive needs. These<br />
projects are just some of<br />
the ways the Auxiliary<br />
works closely with the<br />
hospital to continually<br />
support the hospital’s<br />
needs and community<br />
outreach efforts.
