The last definition concerns the idea proposed by Teun van Dijk ([1997]
2001). It also illustrates the term of discourse in opposition to the French ideas.
According to the author, the concept of discourse can be defined as: a
communication event; a discipline of the language use which is determined by
the community; a specific statement; a form in which ideological formation,
unit is reflected. With regard to the above statements it turnes out that discourse
differs from the French linguists’ point of view compared to the definitions
provided by Teun van Dijk, Gillian Brown and George Yule. French lingusts
affirm that discourse cannot be seen at the same level as text. However, Teun
van Dijk states that discourse and text have something in common. The author
does not distinguish any sharp boundaries between these two terms. Each of
those mentioned clarifications can help me to define the term of hunting
discourse, which can be characterized by the features of these notions.
The type of hunting discourse
In accordance with the aforementioned definitions of the discourse notion, it is
worth observing that the type of hunting discourse does not have one definition
that could clearly describe it. However, I can draw a conclusion that hunting
discourse can be rated among one form of discourse, namely, sport discourse,
which constitutes a base for it. Over the course of time, hunting has ceased to
exist as a kind of profession. Instead hunting is done for a specific purpose.
Thus, in the present time hunting is viewed as a type of hobby, sport, or even
fashion. It is also necessary to undersrand that hunters use the vocabulary that is
associated with the hunting elements, such as hunting game, special hunting
equipment, therefore the emphasis should be placed also on the terminology
used among hunters during the hunt. I can distinguish great diversity in
vocabulary that is quite difficult to understand for people who are not acquainted
with hunting.
