Isotank to acquire TTG depots
Isotank Services Ltd is to acquire four
tank cleaning and repair depots operated
by Tanktainer Thurroclean Group
(TTG), a wholly owned subsidiary of
Hoyer UK Ltd. The addition of the TTG
installations - at West Thurrock, Southampton,
Manchester and Middlesbrough
- to the existing Isotank network of depots
creates the UK’s largest integrated
tank service provider.
Isotank Services and Hoyer UK are
currently engaged in due diligence,
which is expected to be complete by
October 31. The transaction will enable
the two companies to concentrate on
their core activities - Hoyer on tank
transport logistics and Isotank on the
provision of tank cleaning, repair and
haulage services.
It is intended that Hoyer will continue
to make use of the facilities it is
selling and the company will give Isotank
preferred service provider status. Hoyer
will retain the TTG depot in Huddersfield,
adjacent to its UK headquarters, to
function as an in-house regional service
centre for the fleet’s vehicles.

tank cleaning stations - on Teesside at
Fiba tanks
for ethylene
Fiba Technologies Inc has secured a contract
to build 10 cryogenic tank containers
for the carriage of ethylene on behalf
of Overseas Bechtel Inc of Houston.
The vacuum-insulated tanks, which are
to be constructed at Fiba’s Louisville, Kentucky,
plant, will be used in support of operations
at a liquefied natural gas (LNG)
plant that Bechtel is building on Bioko Island
in Equatorial Guinea. The plant is due
to come on stream in late 2007.
The 20ft, 20,250 litre tanks are of the
type that Fiba builds primarily for the
carriage of liquefied nitrogen (LIN), oxygen
(LOX) and argon (LAR). When these
products are carried, the tank’s specialist
insulation system provides holding times
of 49, 77 and 63 days, respectively. As Fiba
points out, the unit is also suitable for the
low-temperature transport of other liquefied
gases, including nitrous oxide,
ethane, ethylene and LNG itself.
The LIN/LOX/LAR/ethylene tank,
which Fiba Technologies denotes as
model HDS-5350-145, is constructed in
304 stainless steel and is built to a working
pressure of 10 bar. It is one of four
models of cryogenic portable tanks designed
and built by the company.
Barges in
Bangladesh
Container Corporation of India (Concor)
has signed a memorandum of understanding
with a private sector Indian company
to provide a barge service between the
Calcutta Dock System and the Port of
Narayangunge, Bangladesh. Concor has
also reached agreement with a Bangladeshi
firm to provide handling and other
equipment.
Narayangunge is a small river port
close to the capital Dhaka, which is
equipped with large jetties and warehouses.
The start-up operation will consist
of two 1500 ton capacity barges, each
of which would be able to carry between
55 and 60 containers.
The initial schedule suggests two return
journeys per month will be undertaken.
However, an imbalance of cargo is
anticipated, with reports suggesting that
there will be insufficient traffic from
Bangladesh to justify additional shortterm
capacity.
The barge service will in part replace
the existing rail/truck link, which involves
dispatching containers by rail from Calcutta
to the Bangladesh border, where the
cargo is transloaded to road trucks, a relatively
costly operation.
Redcar and at Darlaston, Hull and
Immingham. A major project for the
company in recent years has been the
purchase of land adjacent to the Teesside
station and the installation of a new
three-bay washrack at the site. The new
facility has also been provided with the
engineering capability to enable tank refurbishment
work to be carried out.
The addition of the TTG stations
enables Isotank Services to provide UKwide
coverage. In addition to cleaning,
repair and other depot services such as
storage, parking, driver rest facilities, tank
refurbishment, testing and contract maintenance,

equipped for maximum UK payload
haulage and a variety of trailers and ancillary
equipment to accommodate the
