The Chairperson is expected to provide <strong>the</strong> leadership necessary to develop <strong>and</strong> exp<strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department, such as implement<strong>in</strong>g<br />
new academic programs <strong>and</strong> recruitment to <strong>the</strong> departmental majors. The Chair's duties entail foster<strong>in</strong>g an environment<br />
that promotes excellence <strong>in</strong> faculty teach<strong>in</strong>g, significant extramurally-funded research, <strong>and</strong> service to <strong>the</strong> profession <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
community, as well as manag<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong>/or supervis<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> majority of <strong>the</strong> adm<strong>in</strong>istrative tasks <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> department. It is expected<br />
that <strong>the</strong> successful c<strong>and</strong>idate will participate fully <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> life of <strong>the</strong> Department, College, <strong>and</strong> University, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g teach<strong>in</strong>g,<br />
committee work, obta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g grants, publish<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> refereed professional journals, <strong>and</strong> mentor<strong>in</strong>g junior faculty.<br />
C<strong>and</strong>idates must have a Ph.D. with a specialization <strong>in</strong> <strong>Environment</strong>al Science or <strong>Environment</strong>al Geography <strong>and</strong> an emphasis<br />
on Geographic Information Science applications <strong>and</strong> research required. The successful c<strong>and</strong>idate will have an established<br />
record of nationally-recognized scholarship <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>se areas, <strong>and</strong> will have demonstrated effectiveness <strong>in</strong> teach<strong>in</strong>g that merits<br />
appo<strong>in</strong>tment as an Associate Professor or Professor. Substantial adm<strong>in</strong>istrative experience, as well as experience <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> development<br />
<strong>and</strong> management of <strong>in</strong>terdiscipl<strong>in</strong>ary academic <strong>and</strong> research programs, particularly those related to environmental<br />
issues, preferred.<br />

Assistant Professor<br />
<strong>in</strong> <strong>Environment</strong>al Health<br />
The MPH Program, Lehman College, <strong>the</strong> senior college of The City University of New York <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Bronx, which specializes <strong>in</strong><br />
community-based public health <strong>and</strong> health equity, <strong>in</strong>vites applications for a tenure track position at <strong>the</strong> Assistant Professor<br />
rank to beg<strong>in</strong> Fall 2010 to teach graduate <strong>and</strong> undergraduate courses <strong>in</strong> environmental health. The MPH Program is situated<br />
<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department of Health Sciences, but <strong>the</strong> c<strong>and</strong>idate will also be expected to teach courses <strong>in</strong> <strong>Environment</strong>al Geography<br />
<strong>and</strong> Geographic Information Science <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Geographic Information Science (GISc) Program <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department of<br />
<strong>Environment</strong>al, Geographic <strong>and</strong> Geological Sciences (EGGS) which specializes <strong>in</strong> health <strong>and</strong> environmental spatial science<br />
with a strong emphasis on quantitative analysis <strong>and</strong> model<strong>in</strong>g. In addition to teach<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>the</strong> c<strong>and</strong>idate is also expected to advise<br />
students, engage <strong>in</strong> scholarly research <strong>and</strong> publication, seek outside fund<strong>in</strong>g, collaborate <strong>in</strong> develop<strong>in</strong>g a research agenda for<br />
<strong>the</strong> Programs <strong>and</strong> actively participate <strong>in</strong> Departmental <strong>and</strong> College committees <strong>and</strong> professional organizations.<br />
C<strong>and</strong>idates must have a doctoral degree <strong>in</strong> public health, environmental hearth/geography (with a GISc research focus) or a<br />
related field by time of appo<strong>in</strong>tment <strong>and</strong> evidence of <strong>the</strong> potential for active research <strong>and</strong> publication. We are seek<strong>in</strong>g c<strong>and</strong>idates<br />
