Coniston Water across to the former home of John Ruskin,
poet, artist and social reformer.
Our launches run regularly throughout the day to return
you back to the start of your journey with us.

John Ruskin was an artist,
a writer and a thinker who
changed our world.
Brantwood welcomes you
to discover the huge variety
of Ruskin's interests,
many of which have
resonance today.
The spectacular lakeside
position makes it one of the
most beautifully situated houses
in the Lake District.
Brantwood was the home of John Ruskin
from 1872 until 1900.
Brantwood’s Estate
The estate comprises of 250 acres of gardens,
pastures, ancient woods and high moors.
Experience Ruskin's legacy and inspiration among eight
distinctive gardens, all of which have been lovingly restored.
Walk among beautifully scented azaleas and bluebells or
marvel as you gaze at magnificent
unrivalled lake views.

At Brantwood enjoy the exhibitions in the Severn Studio,
where a vibrant programme of quality art and craft is
exhibited throughout the year.
The Coach House Gallery
maintains a Ruskinian tradition of
selling the very best in Arts and Crafts.
Brantwood Bookshop has
an interesting range of books including
many specialist books on Ruskin as
well as an excellent range of quality
gifts and souvenirs.
Jumping Jenny’s is a very popular destination in the lakes
for lunch or tea, with everything cooked on site from fresh,
local ingredients.

Quiz sheets and trails available plus a ‘hands on’ den with a
range of creative materials.
Events throughout the year at Brantwood with outdoor
theatre during the summer months and Craft Fairs, concerts,
