Risk
Is the climate changing and what will be
the repercussions?
How prepared is your organization for a
future which includes climate change?
“$140 Billion of Canada’s Gross Domestic
Product is sensitive to weather and climate”
—Marc Denis Everell, ADM
Meteorological Service of Canada, 2000
Responding to Risk
“ We must now focus on what can and
what should be done, not because we can
be certain climate change is happening,
but because the possibility cannot be
ignored”.
—John Browne, CEO British Petroleum, 1997
Credible information provides the foundation
for assessing and responding to
the risk posed by climate change.
Opportunity
“Climate change is one of the greatest
environmental challenges facing the
world; however, for an innovative economy,
it presents many opportunities.”
—Overview of the 2000 Federal Budget
CLIMEXEC is an opportunity for decisionmakers
within your organization to informally
discuss climate change with active,
IPCC-involved climate change scientists.
Climate Change may well represent a
significant risk to your business, government
or civil society organization: if not
directly, then indirectly through your
clients, customers, citizens or suppliers.
“Clearly, it is no longer a question of
whether the Earth's climate will change.
But rather when? Where? By how much?
And, most importantly, with what impact?”
—Caio K. Koch-Weser, The World Bank, 1997
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate
Change (IPCC) represents the state-ofthe-art,
international consensus on the
scientific, technical and socio-economic
aspects of climate change.
The IPCC assessments provide the basis
for assessing the risk of climate change
and the foundation upon which to base
your organization’s decision-making.
CLIMEXEC is presented in partnership by
the Canadian Climate Program Board, the
Canadian Institute for Climate Studies
and private and public sector partners.
It is funded by the Climate Change Action
Fund of the Government of Canada.
