Postgraduate Education
There is an active teaching programme for junior Paediatric staff with regular
sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings and a Friday lunchtime
departmental meeting as well as a weekly hospital grand round. In addition a two
monthly academic afternoon is arranged focusing on a specific topic with visiting
speakers.
Trainees are expected to participate in audit and present at departmental meetings.
Study leave for postgraduate exams is encouraged and trainees have good success
rates in Membership exams whilst in this post.
NDDH hosts the EPLS course and Consultants are instructors for this and for NLS
courses. There are regular rotations of 5 th year students from the Peninsula Medical
School and trainees are encouraged to participate in the undergraduate teaching
programme.
The library in the hospital has a large stock of Paediatric texts and journals. The staff
are efficient and helpful with any requests for information. Within the Medical
Education Centre you can hire audio visual equipment, obtain help with
presentations and borrow clinical CDs. Most of the postgraduate teaching sessions
take place here. There is also a new skills laboratory in the MEC.
