Church News Faith groups needed to house homeless women Forest Lake, Meadowlake already participating HUNTERSVILLE – In partnership with the Salvation Army, two Huntersville churches are hosting 12 homeless women for seven days this month, and the Salvation Army hopes other houses of worship will join the effort. Lake Forest welcomed a dozen women Monday, Sept. 28, and will shelter them through Monday, Oct. 4. The Meadowlake Presbyterian Church Outreach Team will provide overnight accommodations from Monday, Oct. 5, through Oct. 12. The Meadowlake team is looking for volunteers to help with transportation, serving dinner, staying overnight and building relationships. The Salvation Army Center of Hope needs local faith groups to pick up a dozen homeless women each day and shelter them for seven consecutive nights through Dec. 1, the period between the closing of the Salvation Army’s Emergency Winter Shelter and the reopening of the Room in the Inn winter program operated by the Urban Ministry Center. The Salvation Army needs to find shelter for at least 100 women. The program calls for night accommodations only and does not require hosting the women during the day. Hosts are asked to provide dinner and a light breakfast for the women during their stay. College St. Huntersville’s New Birth-Charlotte church and Girl Talk Foundation have organized the event, and New Birth’s Bishop-Elect Terrell L. Murphy and Cynthia Marshall, president of AT&T North & South <strong>Carolina</strong>, are featured speakers. The one-day event lasts from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and features workshops, speakers and recreation to address teen violence, and self-esteem and teen-parent relationships. Lake Forest Church hosts blues artists HUNTERSVILLE – Lake Forest Church’s Hope in a House of Blues four-week worship series begins Oct. 11, featuring “Southern-bred, rock-n-soul’er” Mike Farris, and continues through Nov. 1 with electric blues guitarist Larry McCray. This annual blues worship event takes place on four consecutive Sundays with three services each, at 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. The Hope in a House of Blues series seeks God in worship through a fusion of music and art. Presbyterian Historical Society meeting in Davidson DAVIDSON – Davidson College Presbyterian Church will host a meeting of the N.C. Presbyterian Society Oct. 10.
