Rescue squad celebrates 50th anniversary
The North Mecklenburg Rescue Squad celebrated its 50th anniversary on Saturday, Sept. 26
at The Park in Huntersville. The events kicked off at 7 a.m. with a 7K run, a one-mile celebration
walk, and a 1K for children. A family festival started at noon, with a climbing wall, a
jumping castle, and free food including hot dogs, chips and salsa, ice cream, and cotton candy
provided by the rescue squad, Salsarita’s restaurant and Friendly’s restaurant.
Firefighters later gave a demonstration on life saving techniques as well as a vehicle extrication.
Rescuers used the “Jaws of Life” and saws to cut the top off of a wrecked automobile to
show how they save someone pinned inside.
