Phifer has over 30 years experience in managing laboratory wastes for academic and industrial
laboratories and is a member and past chair of the ACS Task Force on Environmental Health &
Safety.
Advanced Analytical Technologies for Analyzing Environmental Matrixes Contaminated with
Petroleum Hydrocarbons by Anthony Macherone

Various packaged methods will be discussed for analyzing VOCs, Semi-VOCs, petroleum
hydrocarbons, PAHs in marine water, sediment, and seafood. Advanced technologies are used to
increase sample analysis productivity and enhance detection limit, including QuEChERS with
dispersive SPE for clean up; GC with capillary flow technology backflush; LTM-GC; GC/MS;
GC/MS/MS; and LC/FLD.
The workshop will focus on the use of QuEChERS, GC/MS, and Agilent's newly developed
GC/MS/MS PAH analyzers. Learn how the combination of QuEChERS and advanced GC/MS
technologies can reduce overall analysis time and improve detection limits versus the NOAA standard
method.
