Leapfrog Program<br />

Leapfrog Teaching Assistants (<strong>TA</strong>s) assist with classroom activities and supervise students. <strong>TA</strong>s work closely with Leapfrog<br />

instructors and the Site Coordinator (SC) to provide academically challenging instruction to each CTD student and carry out<br />

administrative tasks as assigned by the instructor and the SC. <strong>TA</strong>s also serve as positive role models for staff and students<br />

and are responsible for the safety and supervision of students assigned to their course(s).<br />

CTD Leapfrog Teaching Assistants (<strong>TA</strong>s) are required to:<br />

Pre-Session<br />

1. Review training materials including the Instructional Staff Handbook. Be knowledgeable of administrative policies<br />

and NU procedures that must be implemented in the classroom.<br />

2. Attend pre-session Instructional Staff Training.<br />

3. Communicate with instructor to review course syllabus and schedule, and to review course <strong>TA</strong> role and course<br />

goals.<br />

During Session<br />

1. Prepare for specific lessons and daily duties by keeping up with course content, readings, etc., and substitute for<br />

classroom teacher, if necessary.<br />

2. Arrive promptly and be present for all required work hours (Half-Day: 8:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and/or 12:30 p.m. to<br />

4:15 p.m., All-Day: 8:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., Monday through Friday).<br />

3. Attend weekly staff meetings.<br />

4. Supervise students as they transition to and from the cafeteria at lunchtime, at restroom breaks, and during<br />

recreational activities.<br />

5. Supervise the lunch and recess hour for students from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Ensure the cleanliness of eating areas once<br />

lunch has ended.<br />

6. Assist instructors with all instruction-related tasks (e.g. leading small groups, evaluating/commenting on student<br />

assignments, photocopying, management and use of A/V equipment, set up and clean up of rooms, etc.).<br />

7. Assist instructors with student evaluations by keeping notes on students’ performance on assignments and projects,<br />

comments during discussions, behavior, progress over the week, etc.<br />

8. Assist students during class, as needed.<br />

9. Communicate with administrative staff regarding student progress and problems.<br />

10. Confirm A/V, Computer Lab, scheduled requests with the Site Coordinator prior to scheduled time.<br />

<strong>11</strong>. Follow all CTD rules and regulations concerning staff conduct, appropriate dress, program procedures, and other<br />

responsibilities as set forth in the Instructional Staff Handbook and by administrative staff.<br />

12. Assume other responsibilities as reasonably requested by the Site Coordinators or administrative staff.<br />

Post-Session<br />

1. Complete program evaluation and evaluation of instructor.<br />

2. Assist instructor in cleaning classroom and returning supplies to the Summer Office.<br />

3. Assume other responsibilities as reasonably requested by administrative staff.<br />

Qualifications:<br />

Current or past enrollment in a college undergraduate or graduate degree program required; a current teacher with one to two<br />

years of experience preferred. Previous experience working with children in a classroom or camp setting is a plus. Applicants<br />

must demonstrate a genuine interest in and awareness of the academic and emotional needs of bright students. Teaching<br />

assistants must demonstrate a mature and positive attitude and serve as role models for students and other staff members.<br />

In order to ensure the safety of the students, all staff members must have the strength and mobility to supervise active children in<br />

classrooms and on the playgrounds. This means staff members must be able to run a short distance and must be able to lift a 30 to<br />

40 pound child.

Week 3: July 25-29, 20<strong>11</strong><br />

Salary:<br />

$220 for Leapfrog Favorites half day (am) course (four day week, Skokie site only)<br />

$275-$325 per half-day (am) course, depending on experience<br />

$450-$500 per pair of half-day courses (am and pm), depending on experience<br />

$425-$475 per all-day course, depending on experience<br />

The CTD Opportunities for the Future Conference is on Saturday, June 25, 20<strong>11</strong>. Leapfrog <strong>TA</strong>s work with the Leapfrog<br />

Coordinator to provide activities for students from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. <strong>TA</strong>s working at the conference are paid extra<br />

(approximately $50-$75) for their time.
