Get ready for an exciting, event-filled senior year. We'll be talking the "G" word (Graduation) early in the fall with a class meeting on October 15, 8:00 am, in the PAC. At this time the Herff-Jones representatives will be here to talk about ordering caps and gowns and graduation announcements. Any seniors who did not have their pictures taken over the summer or during Back to School Days may do so on picture retake day, September 29. We want to be sure EVERY senior has their picture taken for the yearbook and the composite. We’re looking forward to a wonderful year and hope it's a memorable one for our graduating seniors. ADD THESE DATES TO YOUR CALENDAR! August 29- Last Day to Drop a Class for Study Hall September 1 – Labor Day/No School September 2 - Staff Development/No Students September 4 - Junior/Senior Parent Meeting, 7:00 pm in the PAC September 10 - Open House, 5:30 - 8:00 pm September 16-18 - ISTEP September 26-27 - Homecoming Weekend; Homecoming Dance on 9/27 September 26 - Mid-Term Grades Passed Out September 29 - Photographers will be back to take pictures of students who missed Back to School Days, new students, and students who want retakes. Please note that we have a new "parent connect" system this year called PEP (Personalized Education Plan). Your log-in and password for the Parent Connect system will not work on the PEP system. You should have received your new log-in and password during Back to School Days. If you didn't, or if you have any questions, please contact Rhonda Fox, 873- 2858, X 11250. Zionsville is a great place to raise a family. Our community is committed to encouraging healthy living and providing resources for positive learning experiences. “It takes a village to raise a child,” and the Community Conversation Group offers these core principals to promote this concept. We cannot overstate how important it is to discuss the process of making safe and healthy decisions with your children. Your child may not enjoy these conversations, but they are critical in establishing your expectations up front. We all want our children to be safe! We encourage you to get to know your child’s friends and their parents. It is not offensive to call the home where your son or daughter is visiting or staying overnight. We hope that this will be expected and welcomed by all! We have found that many of our children’s poor decisions have been the result of miscommunication. Please call or visit to ensure that your child is in a safe environment. Please do not be offended when others call or visit you. We all want our children to be safe! Good kids make bad decisions when given the opportunity; this is part of the growing-up process. It is our responsibility as adults to limit the opportunities for bad decisions as much as possible. Stay in communication with your child. Know whom they are with, where they are, and where they are going next. Limit access to unhealthy or unsafe items in your home. Do not assume that they will make the right decision on their own. We all want our children to be safe! Support our local law enforcement. They are working hard to protect all of us from the harmful effects of poor decisions. Please support them and the laws they are hired to enforce. Consider using them as a positive resource in your efforts to encourage good decisions by your children. We all want our children to be safe! We encourage you to take some time and use this vision statement as a starting point for a conversation with your children. We believe this level of communication will help our children be safe!

ZCHS is a much better place because of you! Parent involvement makes better students!! The Science Department of ZCHS is pleased to welcome Mr. Lee Banitt as our new Integrated Chemistry/ Physics teacher. Mr. Banitt comes to us from Tipton High School and previous to that he was an organic chemist at Eli Lilly. He is married to a science teacher at Fishers High School and has two children. We feel fortunate that we were able to get someone with such a strong chemistry background as an addition to our staff. We would also like to announce that Mr. Cripe is now a father!! Emerson Cripe was born on the 4th of July. He has lots of pictures and stories to tell about his new little girl. The ZCHS Art Department would like to welcome two new staff members to our team. Mrs. Jalaie’s maternity substitute teacher, Grace Fletcher, has joined us full-time. She will be taking on the Introduction to 3D classes, Sculpture, Ceramics II and a bit of Introduction to 2D. Ms. Fletcher enjoyed her experiences with our students immensely last semester, and is thrilled to be staying on with us. Ready to jump right in, Ms. Fletcher has taken on the duty of sponsoring Art Club and coaching the Fine Arts Academic Superbowl team this year. Any interested students should contact her in the main building. As Mrs. Jared is still out on her maternity leave, Lacey Banuelos will be covering for her first semester. Mrs. Banuelos is a graduate of Herron with a focus on photography and computer graphics; students will be in good hands while Mrs. Jared is gone. Mrs. Julie Noel, a Special Education Teacher at ZCHS was a 2008 grant winner thanks to the Zionsville Education Foundation and the Community Foundation of Boone County. She was awarded a $600 grant for the Project, "Listen, Look and Learn". This project supports the English curriculum by giving students another learning option based on their individual strengths and needs. The grant funds will aid in purchasing audio books and DVD's for students to use in the classroom and take home overnight. Mrs. Noel is extremely grateful for this recognition, the support and the opportunity to provide students with the necessary resources for success.
