Attention all Sophomore Honors English
parents, Mrs. Bender is looking for parent
volunteers for the annual Canterbury Tales
Pilgrimage on Friday, September 12. We
need parents for the day (about 9-2:15), and
parents to help set up lunch at Eagle Creek
Park. It is a fun way to get involved and to
see your kids dressed in clothing from the
Middle Ages! If you are interested, please contact Mrs.
Bender at ext. 12312 or abender@zcs.k12.in.us.
With new uniforms, a great competition show design, and the
largest group of performers in their history, the Marching Eagles
are looking forward to a great year. The students are more excited
than usual about it this year, in part because of the show
theme. The title of the 2008 show is: “Dreams and Dead Ends, A
Gangster Tale”. The show opens with the gangster (the color
guard) breaking out of prison while they play a cool song called Jazz Police.
Next, the gangster finds his girl; the music here is Harlem Nocturne. Being a
1920’s era gangster, some gambling follows and the band plays Luck Be A Lady
Tonight. Just then, the police catch the gangster, there is a chase scene including
sirens, and finally the gangster ends up back in jail.
One of the most exciting parts of the summer was hosting an Open Class Drum
and Bugle Corps called Jersey Surf. The competition site for quarter finals,
semi finals, and finals was in Bloomington, but the group rehearsed in Zionsville
and slept in the Freshman Center gym for three nights. Jersey Surf, along
with the Marching Eagles, gave a short performance in our stadium which was
followed by an ice cream social for the two bands. Performers and staff from
Jersey Surf were very grateful for our hospitality and are looking forward to
staying in Zionsville again next August.
Another upcoming highlight is the opportunity to perform in Lucas Oil Stadium.
I have a feeling that there will be well over 1000 Zionsville spectators for that
event on August 23 rd . This will be the premiere of the
Marching Eagles in their new uniforms.
Enjoy the shows,
Mr. Landrum, Director of Bands
The Speech Team at ZCHS is for any high school student
who enjoys any type of public speaking - speech
giving, debate, discussion, poetry or prose reading, etc. Students
will have opportunities to compete against other schools at Saturday
speech tournaments. Call out meeting will be Wednesday, September
3, from 2:45-3:15 pm, in Room 411 at the high school. Club
FOLK MUSIC CIRCLE
The Folk Music Circle is a club for students who enjoy
any kind of folk music or music that is played with
acoustic or "unplugged" instruments. The club will
meet weekly (day to be announced after the call out
meeting). At a typical FMC meeting simple songs are
projected on a screen while students play a variety of instruments
and percussion. It is not required or necessary that a student know
how to play an instrument. Singers are always needed! Call out
meeting will be Wednesday, August 27, from 2:45 - 3:15 pm, in
Room 411 at the high school. No instruments needed for this first
meeting. Club sponsor: Mr. Kartholl 873-3355 ext. 12411
FIT CLUB
