Active transportation (active commuting)<br />

Human-powered travel, primarily walking and cycling but<br />

also in-line skating, skateboarding, wheelchairing and<br />

other methods<br />

Bike cage<br />

A secure, enclosed bicycle parking area for commuters,<br />

usually in a parking facility or building basement<br />

Car sharing<br />

Services that offer short-term pay-per-use car rentals,<br />

typically to the public but also to businesses as a<br />

complement or replacement to fleet ownership<br />

Compressed work week<br />

An arrangement allowing employees to work a set number<br />

of hours over fewer days (e.g. five days in four, or ten days<br />

in nine), eliminating their commute on certain days<br />

End-of-trip facilities<br />

Bicycle parking, shower and change facilities in the<br />

workplace for use by cycling or walking commuters<br />

Commuter survey<br />

An electronic, paper-based or face-to-face tool for<br />

gathering information about employee commuting habits<br />

and attitudes in a workplace<br />

Emergency (guaranteed) ride home<br />

A service offered by an employer or third party that helps<br />

non-driving commuters get home quickly and<br />

conveniently in case of family emergency, unexpected<br />

Ridematching<br />

A service to help commuters find partners for ridesharing<br />

A special workplace event to build awareness of travel plan<br />

measures by offering a range of information and services<br />

to commuters<br />

Transportation management association (TMA)<br />

An organization that offers services for workplace travel<br />

plans such as analysis, consultation, special events and<br />

ridematching for carpools or vanpools<br />

A package of coordinated actions to encourage efficient<br />

Vanpooling<br />
