SEXY STUFF
HAPPY ENDING
Mantak Chia and Rachel Carlton Abrams’s book The Multi-Orgasmic
Woman thoughtfully outlines how women can maximize their sexual potential,
feel adequate and non-judgmental about sex, get past social pressures
and taboos, and learn to orgasm over and over and O-ver. Esoteric sex
expert and Taoist master Mantak Chia—who is well-respected in alternativehealing
circles worldwide—draws from both eastern sexual practices and
western knowledge to bring readers a pragmatic look at the big O. Available
at Banyen Books (3608 West 4th Avenue) $35.95. > Heather Neale
CITY SLICKER
Vancouver has its very own waterbased
lubricant, called O’My Lube.
This naturally fl avoured product that
has hemp added is made in North
Vancouver, is latex-compatible, and
comes with an easy-lock pump so the
bottle can be disguised as hand moisturizer
when mom stops in for tea. It’s
available in a variety of fl avours, and is
easier on the skin than lubricants have
been in the past. This lube is just the
beginning of steamy indoor activities
during cold autumn evenings. You’ll
be shouting, “O’My” in no time. Available
at Little Sister’s Book and Art
Emporium at 1238 Davie Street, $12.99
for four ounces. > HN
GOOD VIBRATIONS
Introducing Trojan’s thinnest condom ever—and
this time around, the company has spiced things
up. The sleek, barely there glove is paired with the
Elexa Vibrating Ring, which is battery-operated
and has a remarkable 20 minutes of stamina.
The product is designed to be especially pleasing
to women, so in order to make it a less
conspicuous purchase (many women still wince
when browsing the condom aisle) it resides in
the women’s hygiene section, beside the tampons,
pads, and other feminine unmentionables.
According to Trojan, 53 percent of women still
choose not to use condoms during sex, so to
increase the appeal, they’re challenging them
to embrace vibrating latex. You can meet that
challenge for around $10 at major retail outlets
such as London Drugs, Shoppers’ Drug Mart,
and Wal-Mart. > HN
SHOT OF PROGRESS
Human papillomavirus is a common sexually transmitted infection with many strains, some that can cause
genital warts and others that account for most incidences of cervical cancer. Health Canada estimates
that 75 percent of Canadians will have at least one HPV infection in their lifetime. For women who are
already infected, researchers are coming up with a number of vaccines that would halt the development
of cancerous cells associated with the infection. Pharmaceutical companies such as Merck and GSK are
coming out with vaccines that focus on two specific types of HPV (HPV-16 and HPV-18). Merck—which
hopes to release its vaccine before the end of the year—claims that its vaccine will also fight genital warts.
These vaccines could signify an exciting decrease in the number of women who fall seriously ill from HPVrelated
diseases. Specialists such as Dr. Gina Ogilvie at Vancouver’s Centre for Disease Control say we
are going to see a huge evolution in treatments for HPV over the next several years. > HN
ROYAL TREATMENT
Sue Johanson’s line of phallic pleasure certainly
isn’t fancy, but just like her, it gets right to the point.
The dildos, ranging in vibration, pulsation, and
escalation levels, are waterproof for the tub; they
also feature easy-load battery compartments and
pliable rotating appendages. Try out a range of
shapes and sizes, some with clitoral stimulators,
some catering to the G-spot, and all very regal.
Her reasonably priced goodies include the Royal
Surfer, Royal Ripple, and Royal Swirl at $37.95 and
the Royal Rabbit, a relatively luxurious “wascal” with
seven different vibration tones, for $49.95. Head to
Little Sister’s Book and Art Emporium at 1238 Davie
Street to get royally acquainted. > HN
