Environment<br />

Caring <strong>for</strong> the environment is an integral part of our business<br />

strategy. <strong>We</strong> endeavour to achieve a high st<strong>and</strong>ard of<br />

environmental per<strong>for</strong>mance <strong>and</strong> to make a positive contribution<br />

to society through our products.<br />

Our policy is to:<br />

• Comply with environmental legislation, regulations <strong>and</strong> other<br />

codes of practice (such as industry initiatives) adopted by<br />

the company <strong>and</strong> plan ahead <strong>for</strong> future requirements;<br />

• Monitor, evaluate <strong>and</strong> continuously improve environmental<br />

per<strong>for</strong>mance;<br />

• Respond to the needs <strong>and</strong> concerns of local communities;<br />

• Strive towards sustainability, balancing today’s needs with<br />

those of the future;<br />

• Improve employee awareness of environmental issues <strong>and</strong><br />

encourage the sharing of experience <strong>and</strong> expertise amongst<br />

our businesses;<br />

• Minimise any adverse environmental impacts of the<br />

company’s activities;<br />

• Aim to conserve resources by reducing waste <strong>and</strong> by<br />

recycling of materials wherever this is appropriate <strong>and</strong><br />

economically practicable.<br />

This policy is intended to <strong>provide</strong> the framework <strong>for</strong> setting <strong>and</strong><br />

reviewing environmental objectives <strong>and</strong> targets. It is applied as<br />

the minimum st<strong>and</strong>ard across our business. Where businesses<br />

identify a need <strong>for</strong> additional, more stretching requirements,<br />

they are encouraged to build upon this policy. This helps us<br />

to maintain st<strong>and</strong>ards without restricting the development of<br />

any division.<br />

Social <strong>and</strong> Community<br />

The Group’s businesses support a range of charitable <strong>and</strong><br />

community projects consistent with the Company’s interests.<br />

<strong>Cosalt</strong> has conducted business in Grimsby since its <strong>for</strong>mation<br />

in 1873. In recognition of that <strong>and</strong> in order to assist the local<br />

community, a local education project, the Havelock Academy,<br />

is sponsored by David Ross, a Non executive Director of<br />

<strong>Cosalt</strong> plc.<br />

Our responsibilities<br />

Health <strong>and</strong> Safety<br />

This Policy is applicable to all Divisions <strong>and</strong> locations<br />

of <strong>Cosalt</strong> plc.<br />

The statement will be complemented by further Divisional<br />

Health <strong>and</strong> Safety Policy Statements <strong>and</strong> Divisional<br />

arrangements <strong>for</strong> Health <strong>and</strong> Safety.<br />

The Company is committed to providing <strong>and</strong> maintaining<br />

a working environment <strong>and</strong> practices which are safe, without<br />

risk to health <strong>and</strong> af<strong>for</strong>d due consideration to the welfare of<br />

employees <strong>and</strong> other persons who are or may be affected<br />

by Company activities.<br />

The Company Policy will be implemented through:<br />

Ensuring that Divisional Health <strong>and</strong> Safety Policy<br />

<strong>and</strong> Arrangements <strong>for</strong> Health <strong>and</strong> Safety are in place,<br />

communicated, understood <strong>and</strong> implemented effectively.<br />

Provision <strong>and</strong> <strong>maintenance</strong> of safe work locations, facilities,<br />

plant <strong>and</strong> equipment.<br />

Ensuring that a safe working environment <strong>and</strong> safe systems<br />

of work are in place.<br />

Ensuring the provision of adequate training, instruction <strong>and</strong><br />

supervision <strong>for</strong> all employees in respect of Health, Safety,<br />

<strong>We</strong>lfare <strong>and</strong> general systems of work.<br />

Ensuring controlled safe practices are in use <strong>for</strong> the h<strong>and</strong>ling,<br />

storage, processing <strong>and</strong> movement of materials <strong>and</strong> goods.<br />

Periodic review of policy, procedures, practices <strong>and</strong> statistics<br />

to ensure acceptable st<strong>and</strong>ards are maintained <strong>and</strong> to further<br />

reduce Health, Safety <strong>and</strong> <strong>We</strong>lfare risks where appropriate.<br />

Compliance with relevant Health, Safety <strong>and</strong> <strong>We</strong>lfare Legislation<br />

<strong>and</strong> Codes of Practice.<br />

All employees are reminded that their co-operation in achieving<br />

the objectives of this <strong>and</strong> other Divisional policies <strong>for</strong> Health <strong>and</strong><br />

Safety is essential <strong>and</strong> that there are legal obligations on them.<br />

The Board of Directors shall appoint a Company Health <strong>and</strong><br />

Safety Manager to assist Divisional Management with the<br />

implementation of this Policy <strong>and</strong> to report upon its<br />

effectiveness.<br />

The Board of Directors shall consider on a regular basis<br />

the implementation of this Policy <strong>and</strong> any other Health <strong>and</strong><br />

Safety matters as may be brought to their attention. Where<br />

deemed necessary, the Board of Directors shall instigate<br />

appropriate corrective actions through Divisional <strong>and</strong>/or<br />

Safety Management <strong>and</strong> shall further ensure that such<br />

actions are effective.<br />
