Emergency haying or grazing is
now authorized in Pennington
and other counties
The Pennington County
Farm Service Agency Office has
announced that Conservation
Reserve Program practices
CP23 (Wetland Restoration) and
CP25 (Rare and Declining
Habitat) have been authorized
for emergency haying or grazing
in Pennington County and other
counties in northwest
Minnesota.
In order to be authorized for
emergency haying or grazing
the CRP participant must first
apply and receive written
approval from their local FSA
County Office before beginning
any emergency haying or grazing
activities. The emergency
haying or grazing request must
be initiated by the CRP participant.
Prior to approval the CRP
participant must also meet with
the Natural Resources &
Conservation Service to obtain a
modified conservation plan.
Conducting activities before
receiving written approval from
FSA would be considered a contract
violation and could result
in termination of the CRP contract
requiring a refund of all
payments received under the
applicable CRP contract.
Emergency haying or grazing
of CRP can only be released to
the CRP participant or an eligible
livestock producer and the
haying or grazing privilege cannot
be subleased.
The approval for emergency
haying ends on Aug. 31, 2012
and all hay bales must be

livestock must be removed by
that date.
For 2012, the payment reduction
for emergency haying or
grazing has been reduced from
25 percent of annual rental payment
rate per acre to 10 percent
for the acres actually hayed or
grazed.
Producers who have questions
concerning emergency
haying or grazing of CRP
acreage should contact their
local FSA County Office or the
Pennington County FSA Office
at 681-1612 ext. 2.
Burglary reported
in Fosston Monday
Someone entered LePier’s
West in Fosston early Monday
morning, stealing a large
amount of cash.
The Polk County Sheriff ’s
Office received a report about
the burglary at 5:30 a.m.
Monday. The burglar had
entered the business through a
rear door.
The case remains under
investigation. Anyone with any
information is urged to contact
the sheriff’s office at 218-281-
0431.
