State Conference 2012 The 2012 NHWQ State Conference was held on 3 November at the Beenleigh Events Centre. The theme for this year’s conference was 'The future direction of Neighbourhood Watch and the use of social media'. The conference highlighted the Government commitment to take NHWQ online with a focus on social media. The QPS will market the NHWQ program through QPS social media mediums including QPS Facebook and QPS myPolice. A NHWQ blog site will soon be released which has the potential to reach millions of Queenslanders with up to date NHWQ information and events. Mr Albert Frisby - 2012 Winner Our Local Boy is Community Member of the Year The 2012 NHWQ ‘Member of the Year’ was Mr Albert Frisby of Rockhampton NHW area 2. Albert has been actively involved in NHW since November 1992. He has held a number of positions during this time including Area Co-ordinator and Area President. Albert works hard in conjunction with District Crime Prevention Officers to implement crime prevention strategies across Rockhampton. Congratulations to Mr Frisby on winning this award. Some Tips for Bushfire Season Bushfire Survival Plan PREPARE ACT SURVIVE Whether you live in the city, on the urban fringe or in regional or rural Queensland, it is essential you have a Bushfire Survival Plan. Your bushfire survival plan details how you’ll prepare and what action you will take if threatened by a bushfire. A well-prepared home has an increased chance of survival in a bushfire. During a large-scale event, Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) will not be able to place a fire truck at every property so it is therefore even more important to have a solid plan in place.
