The State Road Safety Campaign, Operation Christmas 2012 has started. The operation covers the busy
period from December 2012 and into January 2013.
FATAL FOUR becomes FIVE—the five targets include Fatigue, Drink Driving, Seatbelts,
Distraction/Inattention and Speed.
These will be enforced throughout the Central Region and Statewide.
Distraction and inattention includes for example:
Foggy windscreen;
Indicating one way then driving another; or
Vehicle not giving way to emergency vehicle.
Fatigue is a common talking point over this time and drivers must remember to take regular breaks on long
journeys. Sufficient rest prior is the key. RACQ have a brilliant website in planning your trip, it contains
roadways, rest areas and distances to proposed locations.
High volumes of Police will be patrolling all highways and drivers are reminded to set their cruise control
(if attached), obey the speed limit and be patient on the road.
A common question we get asked is “What if I am being tailgated”.
If you are being tailgated or getting frustrated by a driver, the answer is to pull over at the nearest
opportunity and let the vehicle pass.
We want all our drivers to get to their location and not to become a road fatality.
Theft from and of motor vehicles causes difficulties for the people who are dependent upon them,
impacting on them economically (employment, finances) and emotionally (victims of crime, feeling
unsafe etc.)
Here's a few tips to help you to avoid becoming a victim and a statistic:
Remove keys from the ignition – lock doors and windows and park in well‐lit areas off the street,
where possible
Do not leave valuable items in a motor vehicle
Consider using visible warning devices such as quality steering wheel locks or vehicle alarms
Install an immobiliser
Install security sensor lights in areas around homes where vehicles are parked
Park vehicles off the street
Report suspicious behaviour to police immediately, to enable police to respond in a timely manner
before a vehicle is stolen

New Australian
Police Child ID
Safety App
Available Now
A new smartphone application has been developed to help Australian parents provide
information to police in an attempt to locate their children if they go missing.
The Australian Police Child ID App was adapted from the Federal Bureau of Investigation's
(FBI) Child ID App in the United States. This collaborative effort has seen the Australian
Federal Police (AFP) create a tool that will help parents and guardians more easily
collect and send important information about their child/children to authorities in the
event of a disappearance or abduction.
For more information:
Anyone with information relating to a missing child should contact their local
police or contact National Missing Persons Coordination Centre on 1800 000
Some Tips for
Bushfire Season
Bushfire Survival Plan
PREPARE ACT SURVIVE
Whether you live in the city, on the urban fringe or in regional or rural Queensland, it is
essential you have a Bushfire Survival Plan.
Your bushfire survival plan details how you’ll prepare and what action you will take if
threatened by a bushfire. A well-prepared home has an increased chance of survival in
a bushfire.
During a large-scale event, Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) will not be
able to place a fire truck at every property so it is therefore even more important to
have a solid plan in place.
See www.rural.qld.gov.au for copies of
this booklet.
