NED OVEREND wins the first-ever UCI world mountain bike championships
in 1990 aboard a Specialized Epic Ultimate.
For over 25 years we've worked with the best off-road racers to guarantee all Specialized mountain bikes
have an unbeatable performance advantage.

FACT
MTB FACT IS, THE BEST RIDE IS NO MISTAKE
Our proprietary FACT composite technology allows us to make mountain frames
that are the best for any trail.
REGARDLESS OF THE EXPERIENCE a rider is seeking, Specialized’s
FACT always starts with the demands of the riding experience we are
purpose is to make bikes and equipment that enable all types of
trying to advance, and results in bikes and equipment with proven
cyclists to get more enjoyment from every ride.
performance benefits, including:
More than just a type of material, FACT (Function Advanced Composite
• Exceptionally high strength
Technology) is a combination of sound engineering, cutting-edge
fabrication techniques, intelligent material selection, tireless prototyping
and an endless cycle of testing that enables us to create the best
ride possible.
• Increased efficiency
• Flawless handling
• Incredibly low weight
FOUR STEPS TO A PERFECT RIDE
FACT allows us to custom-tune the design, material choice and
fabrication method of any frame for just the right ride.
THE EXPERIENCE A SPECIFIC FRAME is intended to deliver determines
the materials we use, the design we select and the manufacturing process
we employ, so that we can provide the maximum performance for that
type of riding.
DESIGN: Every FACT mountain frame is optimized for experience-specific
performance. After our design and engineering team understands the
experience that a particular bike is being created to fulfill, we prioritize
a number of attributes such as lateral and torsional rigidity, appropriate
strength, and overall weight depending on the intended application of the
product. Then we engineer the shape of the frame to align materials to
their best advantage.
MATERIAL CHOICE: Every FACT Mountain frame employs materials that
make it stronger than required. When considering carbon for a given application,
our engineers primarily consider two factors: stiffness and strength.
Mountain frames and components require higher strength than those
designed for road riding in order to deal with the peak loads encountered
in off-road riding.
FABRICATION: Every FACT mountain frame we create employs our Az1
Sequentially Cured Monocoque construction method. By exhaustively
revising the Lay-Up Schedule Development (yes, LSD) our engineers
can precisely tune the ride and performance of any frame. Between the
unsurpassed Az1 method and multiple LSD revisions, FACT frames are as
light, strong, efficient, and precise-handling as possible.
TESTING: In addition to test riders logging thousands of hours on every
frame, we perform measurable, repeatable tests in our state-of-the-art lab.
Our testing allows us to compare different revisions of our frames during
the development cycle—the result is something you’ll feel on your next ride.
STRESSED? To ensure strength and performance requirements are
exceeded, part of the FACT development process is continual testing
in both the lab and on the road or trail.

INTRODUCING
FUTURESHOCK
THE ONLY SUSPENSION GOOD ENOUGH TO BE CALLED SPECIALIZED
w
e
Total integration allows for maximum control, incredible efficiency and minimal weight.
Call it self-interest, but as a company filled with passionate cyclists, we’re continually seeking to
make every ride better than the last. This drive to improve led us to completely revolutionize
bicycle suspension by designing our own forks and shocks from the ground up, complete with
proprietary technology and ride characteristics that perfectly complement our patented FSR
suspension design.
The Germans have a word for the essence or feeling of all the critical attributes of a vehicle.
They call it “fahrwerk” (say “far-verk”). For us it only made sense that we integrate and focus all
of the essential elements of a full suspension bike into a machine purpose-built for
a specific type of riding.
The result? Our FutureShock fork and AFR Shock (Active Functional Response) rear shocks
provide maximum control, incredible efficiency and minimal weight.
FUTURESHOCK E150
Found on the S-Works Enduro SL, the E150 fork is the highest performance 150mm-travel fork
in the world.
1 Integrated lowers and 25mm thru-axle for incredible torsional rigidity and steering precision
2 Double triple-clamp design with integrated stem to decrease weight and improve
steering precision
3 Attitude Adjustment travel-adjust system quickly lowers the front end of the
bike by 40mm for optimized climbing performance
4 State-of-the-art seals ensure extremely low maintenance
and high reliability
5 Our proprietary Spike Valve enhances a rider’s control by increasing
stability in corners and at low speeds, while still allowing maximum
travel on large or high-speed impacts
THINK FAST
FLOWCONTROL BRAIN TECHNOLOGY ENABLES THE S-WORKS STUMPJUMPER FSR
AND S-WORKS EPIC TO BE THE FASTEST, MOST EFFICIENT BIKES OF THEIR KIND
New for 2007, our FlowControl Brain technology adds some I.Q. points to our already intelligent Brain damper,
boosting both control and efficiency. Here’s how:
THE FLOWCONTROL BRAIN enhances XC Trail riding and
Competitive XC riding like no other because The Brain senses
the terrain that is being traversed and instantaneously changes
the compression of the shock from firm for maximum pedaling
efficiency, to fully active for unsurpassed bump control.
BRAIN FADE is an adjustment feature that enables the rider to
tune how firm the smooth terrain setting is to match individual
preference and terrain.
EXPERIENCE SPECIFIC TUNING the FlowControl Brain is customized
for Stumpjumper and Epic models. Since the Epic is a all-out race
machine, it is tuned to allow for “Hardtail Firm” while riding over
smooth terrain. A trail bike like no other, the Stumpjumper never
settles into a hardtail firm mode, instead it has a “Trail-Tuned” firm
setting while riding over smooth terrain.
FOR MAXIMUM CONTROL and efficiency, the 2007 S-Works Stumpjumper
and Epic employ custom tuned versions of the all-new FlowControl Brain.
FLOWCONTROL BRAIN CLAIRVOYANT
FLOWCONTROL BRAIN MAKES EVERY RIDE RIDE MORE EFFICIENT
AND MORE CONTROLLED
THE ORIGINAL BRAIN, pioneered by Specialized and suspension
expert Mike McAndrews back in 2002 was, and is, the first and only
bicycle suspension that can sense the terrain and automatically
change the compression from firm (on smooth terrain) to active
(in rough terrain).
The all-new FlowControl Brain is a quantum leap in performance,
because it moves between active and firm modes seamlessly and
instantaneously, resulting in:
• SUPERIOR EFFICIENCY The FlowControl Brain instantly returns
to firm mode, so pedal force translated directly to forward motion
• SUPERIOR CONTROL There is a seamless transition to active
mode when a rider encounters rough terrain so the bike is fully
active in all rough conditions
FLOWCONTROL BRAIN EXPLAINED
How does the new FlowControl Brain enhance
control and efficiency?
1. SMOOTH TERRAIN: When riding over smooth terrain a
ballast covers the damper’s compression port to ensure a firmly
efficient ride.
2. ROUGH TERRAIN: In the rough
stuff, the ballast slides down to open
the damper’s compression port,
enabling the suspension to be fully
active. The flow of the compression
oil keeps the valve open.
3. TRANSITION: Back on
smooth terrain, the
compression flow that
held the port open
stops. This causes the
Flow Control Brain to
instantaneously return
to its “firm” state for
maximum efficiency.
FSR
SUSPENSION
MAXIMUM COMFORT, CONTROL AND EFFICIENCY
IT’S BEEN OVER A DOZEN YEARS since we launched the patented FSR
four-bar linkage design. In that time we’ve developed model after model
of FSR-based suspension bikes, each one leading and defining a
particular category.
Why is FSR the most successful suspension design in history? Simply
because it provides the most comfort, control and efficiency. The way FSR
maximizes this trinity of benefits is through a fully active, fully independent
design that ensures maximum traction and control by allowing the rear
wheel to move freely in any kind of rough terrain, yet maintains full
efficiency by eliminating chain induced bobbing and pedal kickback.
COMFORT
The FSR system’s fully active nature allows the suspension to absorb bump
forces freely, unaffected by whether the rider is pedaling, coasting or
braking. This means you hammer the trail, instead of the other way around.
CONTROL
Control is maximized through the FSR design because the rear wheel is
always free to follow irregularities in the surface of the trail. A more active
suspension design has more traction which results in more control.
EFFICIENCY
Efficiency is maximized through the FSR system by enabling the rider’s
energy to be transmitted directly through the chain and used for forward
motion. Other designs lose significant energy through chain-load induced
bobbing.
FSR also increases efficiency compared to other systems because it allows
the rider to smoothly spin the cranks, leaving pedaling virtually
unaffected by suspension motion. Many other designs can exhibit spin-killing
pedal “kickback” when the suspension is compressed, eroding the
rider’s efficiency.
UNSURPASSED CONTROL FSR suspension
remains fully active, even under braking loads,
ensuring maximum traction and control in any
situation.
10
11
MAXIMUM EFFICIENCY The FSR system provides
maximum pedalling efficiency by eliminating
chain-torque induced "bobbing" and pedal
"kick-back", so pedal force goes directly to
moving you forward.

ÿ 5
ÿ 5
ÿ 5
ÿ 5
THREE KEY FEATURES of the FSR design that make
it fully active and fully independent:
Chain Torque Independence – For maximum control while
pedaling or coasting
Through the careful placement of the 4-bar linkage pivots, the FSR system
provides virtually identical suspension performance while pedaling or
coasting. This allows the suspension to work in an uninhibited manner,
ensuring that tire to ground contact is maximized. A more active suspension
means more traction, and more traction means more control.
Rear Suspension Motion Independence – For maximum efficiency
Rear suspension motion is decoupled from the pedal stroke so there is no
perceptible suspension-induced pedal “kick back.” This enables your
pedal stroke to remain smooth, which is essential for generating efficient
power. A more independent suspension allows for a smoother spin which
results in a more efficient power transmission.
PATENTED FSR FOUR BAR LINKAGE AT WORK
Brake Force Independence - For maximum control whether
you’re braking or not
Through careful engineering of the linkage, pivot placements, and brake
anchor points, the FSR design isolates the rear brake from the suspension.
As a result, it remains fully active and responsive to the terrain, even under
braking loads. A more active suspension results in more traction, which
guarantees more control.
PEAK LOADS Darren Berrecloth tests
the control, comfort and efficiency of his
freeride-tuned FSR suspension.

BACK 40 FRIENDLY
Sure, those slices of singletrack close to town are good for
getting to and from the big, burly, beautiful trails, but the
easy-to-find trails aren’t the ones you’d call your favorites.
To get way out to the good stuff on the Back 40, you need
a bike that pedals as good as it descends and that’s not
afraid of the trails most find too dicey.
ENDURO SL
DESIGNED EXCLUSIVELY for use on our new Enduro,
the E150 is the highest performance 150mm travel
fork in the world. At around 4.5 pounds it boasts the
most effective bump-force management available
and, because it’s been designed exclusively for use
on the Enduro chassis, it has the most precise and
dependable handling possible.
In creating the E150, our team of engineers started from scratch
and came up with an amazing number of exclusive designs and
technologies that ensure it is the stiffest, best handling fork of its
kind. By employing a dual triple-clamp design, the E150 can be both
lighter and stiffer than a typical single crown. We trimmed even more
weight by integrating the stem into the top crown and the lowers
with the thru-axle. Our proprietary Spike Valve enhances control in
any situation because it allows the E150 to respond appropriately
to both large and small impacts. You won’t find the E150 on any bike
other than an Enduro and that’s just the way we like it.
SUSPENSION GOODNESS
Regardless of whether a bike has 9-inches of travel
like our Demo 9 or 4.75-inches of trail tuned goodness
like our S-Works Carbon Stumpjumper, we’re able to tune
the telemetry of the FSR suspension to always be fully
active and fully independent. That equates to superior
control because the fully active rear suspension is
continually working to keep the tires in touch with the
terrain. FSR riders are also privy to maximum efficiency
at all times because the fully independent FSR suspension
doesn’t interfere with pedal stroke. FSR also means
minimum fatigue because a rider’s bike, not their body,
absorbs bump forces.
A WORLD CUP WINNER IN ITS FIRST OUTING
Like World Cup Champion and Specialized factory rider Christoph Sauser, you’re
probably obsessed with going fast over the rough, but not too burly trails covered
in most cross-country races. With three World Cup titles to his credit, “Susi,” an
admitted equipment junkie, could’ve ridden for anyone, but he chose Specialized
just so he could race on our feathery S-Works Carbon Epic. Midway through the
season we surprised him with our new AFR Shock rear shock featuring the more
efficient than ever FlowControl Brain. Christoph liked the AFR shock so much he
won the first two races he did on the bike — the Mt. Snow NORBA National and
FLOWCONTROL BRAIN
SURVIVAL OF THE FASTEST
Since 2002, Brain technology has automatically adjusted
suspension from firmly efficient while riding over smooth
terrain, to fully active for maximum control over rough
terrain. The all-new FlowControl Brain turbo-charges
efficiency and control by making the transition from firm
to active and back totally seamless and instantaneous.
You want proof? How about the fact that the first two
races the FlowControl Brain entered, it landed on the top
two steps of the podium (at the Mont-Saint-Anne UCI
World Cup and the Mount Snow NORBA National).
LIGHTER THAN MOST ROAD BIKES,
FOR COURSES THAT ARE NEARLY AS FAST
In 2006, all our sponsored cross-country pros raced on S-Works Carbon Epics
with new FlowControl Brain shock, but some die-hard racers and performance
freaks asked us for a race-day ride that was as light and as singular in
purpose as our Langster track bike. “Some courses are practically paved,”
they said. So we dug into the same bag of FACT composite tricks we used to
create the new Roubaix SL—including FACT Carbon Az1 Sequentially Cured
monocoque construction—and gave them a mountain frame that’s lighter than
frames that have recently won the Tour de France and is engineered to grab
holeshots and sail on smooth singletrack.
EQUIPMENT
THE BEST RIDE IS BETTER WITH THE RIGHT DETAILS
Think of all the great rides that could’ve been better with a pair of
shoes that decreased heart rate, a pair of tires that rolled smoother
and faster or a saddle that improved blood flow to a most vital area.
To that end, here’s a sampling of our best component and
equipment offering—shoes that help even angles fly, tires with
Superbike technology and saddles that will ensure you can
raise more than just your arms after a victory. S-Works equipment,
because making your next great ride even better shouldn’t stop
with your bike.
S-WORKS BARMAC WEDGE: You want a bike that fits you and
the way you ride—perfectly. To that end we’ve made the S-Works
BarMac Wedge, the only one-piece composite bar and stem
combination that is fully adjustable.
ARCTERRA Feathery, but still offering full coverage, the ArcTerra
is our new high performance mountain shield that features
revolutionary NXT—an unbreakable optical polymer originally
developed for military applications—and our exclusive Mountain
Formula Adaptalite, an auto-adjusting lens tint. Nearly as light
as our Arc road shield, but with a bit more body and rigidity
for unshakable performance during rigorous off road use.
FAST TRAK SLK AND LK Designed for the world's best XC
racers, the S-Works FastTrak SLK and LK have been
outfitted with our light and supple 127 TPI tube-type casing,
a tubeless-ready Kevlar bead, race proven compound and
fast-rolling tread. Never happy with good enough, we made
the FastTrak both tube and tubeless compatible.
TOUPE TEAM At under 200 grams, the Toupe Team is light
and, with medically tested, scientifically proven Body
Geometry technology, multiple shell widths and a carbon
shell with tuned flexibility, it’s the first flyweight saddle that
maximizes blood flow so you feel good all day and all night.
WORN TO VICTORY IN THE 2006 TOUR DE FRANCE, the 240-gram
S-Works road shoes are not only the world's lightest, but thanks to
our exclusive Body Geometry technology, including the High
Performance BG+ footbed, it fits so well that the shoes can be worn
hour after hour, day after day. What’s more, when tested in clinical
trials, Body Geometry shoe and footbed technology resulted in
a measurable increase in a rider’s time to exhaustion.
MONDO OPEN TUBULAR Because you crave
high speed and supreme ride quality, we’ve
created the S-Works Mondo Open Tubular,
a tire that combines the suppleness of our open
tubular casing with the low rolling resistance
of a motorcycle inspired dual radius tread.
