Brochure for the Harry S. Truman Library Inscribed by President Truman along with a typed secretarial signed letter and some assorted ephemera.<br />
Stiff stapled glossy wrappers. Octavo. 62pp. Very good with the outer wrap pulled loose at both staples, a bit rubbed and a stamp on the rear wrap<br />
that reads “Leland Publishers Inc. May 16 1958”; remaining items fine. The brochure is Inscribed by Truman beneath his Presidential portrait<br />
to Wilma S. Leland, the wife <strong>of</strong> Minnesota publisher, Leland S. Leland, and additionally Initialed under his wife’s portrait on the facing page<br />
thusly: “Mrs. Harry Truman by H.S.T.” Accompanying the brochure is a typed letter signed in a secretarial hand, dated June 5, 1970, on Truman’s<br />
letterhead with mailing envelope, thanking Leland for her good wishes on his 86th birthday. Also present are eight post cards from the Truman<br />
Library and two newspaper clippings. [BTC #383656]<br />

<strong>of</strong> an Editor”. 1967. $1250<br />
Typewritten manuscript. [13]pp. Carbon transcript typed rectos only secured with a<br />
paperclip. Folds as mailed else near fine in original envelope with author’s notations.<br />
A transcript from the latter half <strong>of</strong> John Hall Wheelock’s career for “Reminiscences<br />
<strong>of</strong> an Editor,” which was broadcast on The Third Programme on BBC radio, July<br />
1967 and directed by Ge<strong>of</strong>frey Bridson. All pages are heavily edited with notations<br />
in Wheelock’s hand. An essay on his long tenure as an editor at Charles Scribner’s<br />
Sons, where he took over from Maxwell Perkins, and was a discoverer <strong>of</strong> new talent.<br />
“What an exhausting job it is to be an editor! Like teaching, it is a creative activity<br />
and involves the same areas <strong>of</strong> energy and imagination that are involved in writing.”<br />
Known as the “cultural boss <strong>of</strong> the BBC,” D.G. [Ge<strong>of</strong>frey] Bridson, worked until<br />
1969 producing over 800 programs including The Third Programme, which was<br />
aimed at “high brow” audiences and aimed to promote “something fundamental to<br />
