Well, that’s where our Regional Moderators come in. Regional Moderators perform a quality assurance role, making sure that assessment decisions are consistent across the board. When looking at assessments they are asking the question ‘Based on the same evidence, would another assessor make the same decision as this one?’ Moderation Officer Bruce McCall explains, “The moderation process is essential to maintaining the credibility of InfraTrain qualifications. It enables industry to feel confident in our assessment decisions – for example, that an assessor in Whangarei would make the same decision as one in Invercargill. InfraTrain Bulletin New Qualifications for Surveying A new National Certificate in Surveying (Assistant) and National Diploma in Surveying developed by InfraTrain have been enthusiastically received by the surveying profession. These qualifications are the result of collaboration between InfraTrain and the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors (NZIS). Both qualifications have been developed in response to industry demand and have attracted a great deal of interest. Resources are currently being finalised and both qualifications will be available for sign up early next year. The qualifications are relevant to civil construction and land development work. Both provide the opportunity to gain practical skills and knowledge from industry experts. The National Certificate in Surveying (Assistant) is a Level 3 qualification. It is designed for people entering or working at assistant level in the land surveying sector of the surveying profession. The certificate is completed through the recognition of relevant work experience and on-job training. Student membership of NZIS is available to enrolled trainees. This qualification can lead to the Diploma in Surveying (Level 6). The National Diploma in Surveying is a Level 6 qualification. It is designed for survey technicians and provides the practical skills required for infrastructure and land development projects. The diploma can be completed either through the completion of workbook activities, recognition of relevant work experience and on-job training, or through full-time or part-time study at an accredited provider. The diploma also has an optional strand in Mine Surveying, which recognises competence in underground surveying work. Graduates of the National Diploma are eligible for Associate Membership of NZIS (ANZIS).
