In order to reflect the existing market structure the sample was to include both financial sponsors of German and Central European and Anglo-Saxon investors. Three other companies (Mauser, M+W Zander, Prüm-Garant) have been sold to new shareholders after the interview but before the publication of this study. The 13 interviewed companies operate in nine different industries. With four interviewees from the mechanical and plant engineering sector, this industry is represented strongest. Eight companies had been part of a larger corporate group before the buyout. Four companies had previously been family businesses. One company had been sold by the public sector in a privatisation process. The focus of this study was to retrieve quality data during in-depth interviews based on a standardised questionnaire. After the interviews the information was processed anonymously.
