INTRODUCTION: DESCRIPTION OF PARKS<br />
AND RESERVES<br />
The evaluation <strong>of</strong> management effectiveness <strong>of</strong> eight Wildlife Protected Areas <strong>of</strong> <strong>Ghana</strong>,<br />
namely: Ankasa conservation area (50,900 ha), Bia conservation area (30,500 ha), Bomfobiri<br />
wildlife sanctuary (5,300 ha), Bui national park (181,290 ha), Kakum conservation area (36,000<br />
ha), Kyabobo national park (22,000 ha), Mole national park (457,700 ha), Shai Hills resource<br />
th th<br />
reserve (5,100 ha) was carried out from 16 to 18 December 2009 in Accra.<br />
These protected areas cover 788,790 ha, approximately 3.3% <strong>of</strong> the country. The network <strong>of</strong><br />
Wildlife PAs in <strong>Ghana</strong> covers 5.6% <strong>of</strong> the country.<br />
