Health Promotion for Staff<br />
Educators and school staff members are<br />
important role models. Successful schools have<br />
healthy, highly motivated staff members with<br />
low rates of absenteeism.<br />
To address the Health Promotion for Staff component for the<br />
2013-14 school year, each <strong>HPSE</strong> school must work toward<br />
achievement of the following:<br />

Requirement<br />
Conduct the <strong>HPSE</strong> Staff Wellness survey, and participate in at<br />
least one of the following programs based on the wants/needs of<br />
your school staff:<br />
• Humana/Summit Health Screenings<br />
• HumanaVitality<br />
• Cooper/Clayton smoking cessation classes<br />
• American Cancer Society’s Active for Life<br />
Stefanie Bramer, program specialist, organized<br />
the ten-week Active for Life team challenge. A total of 15 teams<br />
in 15 <strong>HPSE</strong> schools (a total of 163 participants) helped make the<br />
Health Promotion for Staff member challenge a success. The top<br />
team was from Eisenhower Elementary and was coordinated by PE<br />
teacher Karen Sweazy. The Eisenhower team was presented with<br />
individual prizes and a team certificate on Fri., Mar. 29. The other<br />
teams, listed in order of ranking, were as follows: Lassiter Middle,<br />
Hawthorne Elementary, Student Health Services, Johnsontown<br />
Road Elementary, Hazelwood Elementary, Stonestreet Elementary,<br />
Rangeland Elementary, Sanders Elementary, Greathouse/Shryock<br />
Traditional Elementary, Brandeis Elementary, Churchill Park School,<br />
Dixie Elementary, Wellington Elementary, and Farnsley Middle.<br />
