Sonja Dinner:
The DEAR Foundation
Sonja Dinner’s philanthropic work, as an individual and as President of the
Board of The DEAR Foundation in Switzerland, transcends religious and
ethnic divisiveness. Sonja knows that the grim face of poverty is the same
worldwide.
Sonja’s philanthropy started in 2000 and using her business connections,
she created awareness and raised funds for the causes she holds dear. After
a successful career as CEO and primary shareholder of the information
technology company Heyde AG, Sonja used her skills to independently
advise Swiss Banks and its customers on philanthropic and humanitarian
investments.
Sonja serves on the advisory boards of many humanitarian and non-profit
organizations that implement worldwide capacity building programs. She
serves on the board of the Jerusalem Foundation in Switzerland and she has
been the President of the Board of The DEAR Foundation since 2006.
Cost-effective and sustainable projects are critical to Sonja, who believes that
cooperation among various NGOs and government organizations is essential
to the success of any project. Sonja lives by the motto that education and
improved living conditions are the only way to change the fate of those who
are poverty stricken.
Sonja has ambitious goals: give as many children as possible a meaningful
childhood and empower the poor to live a dignified and independent
existence, free from charitable handouts. This work takes her not only to
Israel and the Middle East, but also to all parts of Africa, Asia and Central
and South America.

These very goals drive Sonja and The DEAR Foundation’s
committment to some of the most needy of Jerusalem’s children.
The DEAR Foundation supports children in the Mahane Yehuda
market, known as “handcart children,” who should not be working
but playing, giving them a chance to be children again. Ethiopian
immigrant children now have a chance at success thanks to The
DEAR Foundation’s support for a literacy program.
A shining example of The DEAR Foundation’s and Sonja’s pledge
to transcend our differences and put tolerance and understanding
above all is their support for the Hand in Hand High School for
Bilingual Education, where Jewish, Muslim and Christian students
learn together, and the Speaking Art Conference which fosters
dialogue between Jews, Muslims and Christian artists.
Understanding the importance of giving people a “hand up” rather
than a “hand out,” The DEAR Foundation supported the Women’s
Independent Network for Muslim women in the Old City, so that
they can learn and market a skill. Sonja is keenly aware that dignity
also applies to those who are elderly and for this reason The DEAR
Foundation supported the renovation of Beit Hofmann, a day care
center that truly breaks the mold by offering vibrant activities for
“golden agers.”
Sonja resides in Switzerland. She is a frequent visitor to Jerusalem
and is personally involved with the projects The DEAR Foundation
supports.

מודעת היטב כי קיום בכבוד מתייחס גם לאוכלוסיית הקשישים וזו הסיבה
שקרן דיר תמכה בשנה החולפת בשיפוץ מקיף של בית הופמן – מרכז
יום לגיל הזהב בשכונת הקטמונים המשמש בית תוסס ומלא פעילות
עבור האוכלוסייה המתבגרת של השכונה והשכונות הסמוכות.‏
הגב‘‏ דינר מתגוררת בשוויץ.‏ היא נוהגת לבקר לעיתים תכופות בירושלים
ומעורבת באופן אישי בפרויקטים הנתמכים על ידי קרן דיר.‏

פעילותה הפילנתרופית של סוניה דינר,‏ כאדם פרטי וכנשיאת קרן דיר,‏ חוצה גבולות
דתיים ואתניים.‏
גב‘‏ דינר יודעת כי פניו העגומים של העוני דומים בכל העולם.‏
גב‘‏ דינר החלה את דרכה הפילנתרופית בשנת 2000 כשהיא משתמשת בקשרים
העסקיים שרכשה כדי להגביר את המודעות ולגייס תרומות למטרות שהיו קרובות
לליבה.‏ לאחר קריירה מצליחה כמנכ“לית חברת הידע הטכנולוגי ,Heyde AG בה עבדה

בין ארגוני מגזר שלישי וארגונים ממשלתיים חיוניים להצלחתו של כל פרויקט.‏ היא
מאמינה גם כי חינוך ושיפור תנאי המחייה הם הדרך היחידה לשנות את חייהם של אלו
הנמצאים בתוך מעגל העוני.‏
הגב‘‏ דינר הציבה לעצמה מטרה שאפתנית במיוחד:‏ להעניק לכמה שיותר ילדים ילדות
טובה ולהעצים את החלשים בחברה כך שיוכלו לחיות חיי כבוד ועצמאות ולא להזדקק
לחסדים.‏ אלו המטרות שקרן דיר משתדלת ליישם בקרב ילדי ירושלים הגדלים בתנאי
מצוקה.‏ כך,‏ למשל,‏ תומכת קרן דיר בילדים העובדים לפרנסת משפחותיהם בשוק מחנה
