At 31 December 2009 the balance outstanding on the loan was £3,335,180 (2008: £3,547,000). The loan is at a fixed rate of interest of 4.89% and is due to mature on 28 February 2021. See also Note 12. (b) Outstanding Loans Outstanding loans from JRF at 31 December 2009 amounted to £2,144,399 (2008: £6,853,786). Loans made during the year amounted to £4,675,516, and loan repayments amounted to £9,384,903 Interest charged on these loans during the year was £117,000 (2008: £334,000). Further details of these loans can be found in Notes 8 and 12. 24
Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust Registered Charity STATEMENT OF TRUSTEES' RESPONSIBILITIES IN RESPECT OF THE TRUSTEES' ANNUAL REPORT AND THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS Under the Trust Deed of the Trust and charity law, the Trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees' Annual Report and the Financial Statements in accordance with applicable law and regulations. The Financial Statements are required by law to give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the Trust and of the surplus or deficit for that period. In preparing these Financial Statements, the Trustees are required to:- - select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently; - make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent; - - - state whether applicable UK Accounting Standards and the Statement of Recommended Practice have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the Financial Statements; state whether the Financial Statements comply with the Trust Deed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the Financial Statements; and prepare the Financial Statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the Trust will continue in business. The Trustees are required to act in accordance with the Trust Deed of the Trust, within the framework of trust law. The Trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records, sufficient to disclose at any time, with reasonable accuracy, the financial position of the Trust at that time and enable Trustees to ensure that its Financial Statements comply with the Charities Act 1993, the Housing Act 1996 and the Accounting Requirements for Registered Social Landlords General Determination 2006. The Trustees have general responsibility for taking such steps as are reasonably open to them to safeguard the assets of the Trust and to prevent and detect fraud and other irregularities. The Trustees are responsible for the maintenance and integrity of the corporate and financial information included on the Trust's website. Legislation in the UK governing the preparation and dissemination of Financial Statements may differ from legislation in other jurisdictions. 25
