Communal Cemetery Extension (Nord), France. Grave reference I.C.101.<br />

During most of July 1915 the 6 th battalion were in billets at the rear. These billets consisted mainly<br />

leaky barns and farm buildings. On the 31 st July 1915 the battalion was moved into the frontline at<br />

Plugstreet Wood. It appears that Herbert was probably wounded in an earlier engagement<br />

somewhere near Armentieres and died of his wounds weeks later.<br />
