Corporal 723458 Christopher James HOLDSTOCK. 24 th Battalion, London Regiment
Formerly (2159) 2/5 th Buffs (East Kent Regiment.. Died Friday 8 th June 1917 aged 20 years.
Born Shoreham, Sussex. Enlisted Ashford. Resided Tenterden. Son of George Holdstock of
“Dandy”, Tenterden. Christopher has no known grave. His name appears on the Ypres (Menin
Gate) Memorial, Leper, Belgium. Panel reference 52 to 54.
Before the outbreak of war Christopher was employed at Great Maytham, Rolvenden. He joined
up in December 1914 with The Buffs but was later transferred into the London Regiment. He left
for France on 2 nd September 1916.
It is recorded that Christopher was instantly killed when a shell exploded nearby. His body was
buried by his mates near to where he fell but this spot was not recorded meaning his grave was
lost.
