Corporal 723458 Christopher James HOLDSTOCK. 24 th Battalion, London Regiment<br />
Formerly (2159) 2/5 th Buffs (East <strong>Kent</strong> Regiment.. Died Friday 8 th June 1917 aged 20 years.<br />
Born Shoreham, Sussex. Enlisted Ashford. Resided Tenterden. Son of George Holdstock of<br />
“Dandy”, Tenterden. Christopher has no known grave. His name appears on the Ypres (Menin<br />
Gate) Memorial, Leper, Belgium. Panel reference 52 to 54.<br />
Before the outbreak of war Christopher was employed at Great Maytham, Rolvenden. He joined<br />
up in December 1914 with The Buffs but was later transferred into the London Regiment. He left<br />
for France on 2 nd September 1916.<br />
It is recorded that Christopher was instantly killed when a shell exploded nearby. His body was<br />
buried by his mates near to where he fell but this spot was not recorded meaning his grave was<br />
lost.<br />
