Single-acting piston seal<br />

Description<br />

Lionsele ® U3 is a U-profiled seal of<br />

high-performance polyurethane,<br />

designed for single-action use on<br />

hydraulic pistons. Two of these<br />

seals, installed in a back-to-back<br />

arrangement, can be used on doubleacting<br />

pistons.<br />

The lip profile of this seal is designed as<br />

an interference fit within the housing. The<br />

radial squeeze provided by this action<br />

gives efficient sealing at low pressures.<br />

In operation, the seal becomes pressureresponsive<br />

to maintain sealing forces —<br />

even at very high pressures.<br />

In addition, the asymmetric profile of the<br />

sealing lips reduces float of the seal in<br />

the housing. This improves efficiency and<br />

reduces the pumping of fluid under the<br />

sealing lip.<br />

Special features<br />

• High mechanical strength polyurethane<br />

provides excellent extrusion and wear<br />

resistance to minimise plant downtime.<br />

• Improved sealing performance across<br />

the operational pressure range reduces<br />

power losses in the hydraulic cylinder.<br />

Typical applications<br />

Single-acting piston seal for hydraulic<br />

cylinders on general duty systems. For<br />

double-acting pistons, two separate seals<br />

can be used, but care must be taken to<br />

relieve any potential build up of internal<br />

pressure.<br />

Operating capabilities<br />

• Maximum operating pressure:<br />

42MPa (6092psi).<br />

• Temperature range:<br />

-30°C to +100°C (-22°F to +212°F).<br />

• Maximum surface speed:<br />

0.5m/s (98.4fpm).<br />

Materials of construction<br />

Precision moulded in wear-resistant<br />

polyurethane (AU/EU).<br />

Media capabilities<br />

Suitable for use with most mineral-based<br />

hydraulic fluids at temperatures up to<br />

100°C (212°F). Also resistant to air, and<br />

most lubricating oils and greases.<br />

Where fire-resistant fluids of the water/oil<br />

emulsion or water/glycol types are used,<br />
