Past Chair and Co-Chair • Phan Thi Kim Phúc, Keynote Speaker: “Coming Through the Fire” (Lecture) In 1972, a little girl in Vietnam made world news when she was photographed, arms outstretched, running naked from her village during a napalm attack. Nineyear-old Kim suffered such severe burns that she needed 14 months in hospital and 17 operations to recover. In 1996, while speaking at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on Veterans Day, she was introduced to a former airman involved in the napalm bombing of her village and publicly offered him her forgiveness. Since that time, she has dedicated her life to promoting peace and in 1997, founded the Kim Phuc Foundation International in Chicago. She resides in Ontario with her husband and two sons, Thomas and Stephen.
