Our Super Squad of four intrepid adventurers, our
battlers, ballerinas and brainboxes, have beaten off
the competition to become the South Island Champions.
Channel 2’s daily magazine program ‘Studio 2’ is
searching the entire country for the ultimate ‘Super
Squad’. For the last three months the Studio 2 Crew have
been the length and breadth of the South Island, pitting
the finest four contestants of that area that makes up a
Super Squad, against one another.
Mount Aspiring College’s Squad consisted of a ‘Brainbox’
(Rohan Brash), an ‘Entertainer’ (Lara Bullock), a ‘Daredevil’
(Elmo Cotter) and a ‘Sport Billy’ (Henry Schikker).
In the early rounds each contestant competed
individually in their events but as the competition
developed, so did the team spirit until the whole squad
was involved in every challenge. They have wowed the
crowds with incredible dances incorporating basketball
and rugby; Shocked, with daring deeds with rats, spiders
and dubious cocktails; Amazed, with golf, cricket and
goldfish catching prowess. And let’s not forget the head
scratching caused by the Battle of the Brains.
In the first round we whitewashed Westport. In the
quarter final, we mauled Motueka and in the semi final
we hammered Hokitika. This means that Wanaka will
represent the South Island against the best the North
Island can come up with.
The Squad have already collected their ‘G Shock’
watches, their ‘ipod Shuffles’ and won an ‘Apple
eMac’ for the school, but that’s not all. The squad
will be flown to Auckland to compete for one whole
week for the Grand Prize of an all expenses paid
holiday to Australia, and the prestigious title of
‘Super Squad of New Zealand’!
seconds.
6) The ‘ipod shuffle’
because I didn’t have one
7) Maybe going surfing
and swimming in the sea
and all the other cool
