INFORMATION<br />

FLORIDA DRIVERS LICENSE<br />

If you’re new to Florida, 18 or older and<br />

already have a valid driver license from<br />

another <strong>st</strong>ate or country, you can use your<br />

current out-of-<strong>st</strong>ate license as your primary<br />

form of ID. In this case, you may only need<br />

a secondary form of identification from the<br />

State of Florida. We recommend that you<br />

make an appointment by calling (772) 344-<br />

4060 in Port St. Lucie and (772) 468-3957<br />

in Fort Pierce.<br />

MOTOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION<br />

New residents mu<strong>st</strong> regi<strong>st</strong>er their vehicles<br />

and obtain Florida license tags within<br />

30 days of e<strong>st</strong>ablishing legal residency, or<br />

by their fir<strong>st</strong> day of work in the <strong>st</strong>ate, or<br />

when they regi<strong>st</strong>er their children in school.<br />

BOAT REGISTRATION<br />

If you own a boat and plan to keep it in<br />

Florida for more than 90 days, you mu<strong>st</strong><br />

regi<strong>st</strong>er it with the Tax Collector’s office.<br />

Fees vary according to the length of the<br />

boat. Contact the Tax Collector’s office at<br />

(772) 462-1650.<br />

VOTER REGISTRATION<br />

You may regi<strong>st</strong>er to vote at the St. Lucie<br />

County Supervisor of Elections offices in<br />

Fort Pierce, St. Lucie We<strong>st</strong> and Port St.<br />

Lucie. To regi<strong>st</strong>er you mu<strong>st</strong>: (1) be a U.S.<br />

citizen; (2) be a Florida resident; (3) be 18<br />

years old (you may pre-regi<strong>st</strong>er if you are<br />

17); (4) not now be adjudicated mentally<br />

incapacitated with respect to voting in<br />

Florida or any other <strong>st</strong>ate; (5) not have<br />

been convicted of a felony without your<br />

civil rights having been re<strong>st</strong>ored pursuant<br />

to law; (6) not claim the right to vote in<br />

another <strong>county</strong> or <strong>st</strong>ate. Please note that<br />

you mu<strong>st</strong> be regi<strong>st</strong>ered at lea<strong>st</strong> 29 days<br />

before the election in which you wish to<br />

vote. Contact the Supervisor of Elections at<br />

SCHOOL REGISTRATION<br />

Regi<strong>st</strong>er children for school at the St. Lucie<br />

County School Board office of Student<br />

Assignment, located in the Orange Blossom<br />

Business Park on Okeechobee Road,<br />

in Fort Pierce. When regi<strong>st</strong>ering children<br />

in local public schools for the fir<strong>st</strong> time,<br />

parents should present the following: One<br />

document showing proof of residency, a<br />

certificate of immunization, proof of medical<br />

examination during the pa<strong>st</strong> 12 months,<br />

birth certificate and a copy of the child’s<br />

la<strong>st</strong> report card is helpful. St. Lucie County<br />

School Board Student Assignment can be<br />

reached at (772) 429-3930.<br />

PET LICENSES<br />

All dogs and cats in St. Lucie County,<br />

including unincorporated St. Lucie County,<br />

Port Saint Lucie and Fort Pierce mu<strong>st</strong> have<br />

a pet license. For information on how to<br />

obtain a license in your area, please call the<br />

Humane Society at (772) 461-0687.<br />

FISHING LICENSES<br />

Florida regulation requires all residents<br />

and nonresidents to obtain a license for all<br />

salt-water and fresh water fishing. For more<br />

information on how to obtain a license, call<br />

the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission<br />

at (561) 625-5122.<br />

HUNTING LICENSES<br />

Hunting licenses permit the hunting<br />

of any bird or animal in season except on<br />

game reserves and po<strong>st</strong>ed private property<br />

without permission. Hunting Licenses may<br />

be purchased at the Tax Collector’s office,<br />

Wal-Mart, K-Mart or many local bait and<br />

tackle shops. For additional information,<br />
