UNIVERSITY ORGANIZATION<br />
The <strong>University</strong> structure is comprised of four major constituents:<br />
1. The Board of Trustees, which represents “<strong>Johnson</strong> C. <strong>Smith</strong> <strong>University</strong>,<br />
Incorporated” as a legal corporate entity, referred to as the Corporation;<br />
2. The Administration, Faculty and Student Body, all of whom comprise<br />
<strong>Johnson</strong> C. <strong>Smith</strong> <strong>University</strong> as an institution of higher education;<br />
3. The Board of Visitors; and<br />
4. The Alumni Association<br />
BOARD OF TRUSTEES<br />
The Board of Trustees represents the corporate entity of the <strong>University</strong>, carrying out<br />
the functions of the Corporation and having ultimate institutional authority.<br />
As such, the functions of the Board of Trustees include establishing overall policy for<br />
the government and operation of the <strong>University</strong>; employing the President, the chief<br />
executive of the Corporation and the chief administrative officer of the <strong>University</strong>;<br />
employing the officers, faculty, and other employees of the <strong>University</strong>, or delegating<br />
same to the President subject to the approval of the Board; prescribing and requiring<br />
entrance examinations; establishing tuition, fees, and other charges to <strong>student</strong>s; and<br />
adopting rules, regulations, and bylaws for the operation of the Corporation and the<br />
governing of all aspects of <strong>student</strong> life, including, but not limited to, standards of<br />
behavior and discipline.<br />
UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATION<br />
AND OFFICERS<br />
The <strong>University</strong>’s administration and academic operations are exercised through the<br />
Office of the Chief Executive Officers of the Corporation and the Chief Administrator<br />
of the <strong>University</strong> (the Office of the President); and four operational divisions:<br />
Council of Deans, Student Success, Business and Financial Affairs, and Institutional<br />
Advancement (Development), each of which is headed by a Vice President. The<br />
officers of the <strong>University</strong> include the President and the Three Vice Presidents.<br />
Office of the President: The supervision of the affairs of the Corporation and the<br />
administrative and academic operations of the <strong>University</strong> are exercised through<br />
the Office of the President. The functions of this office also include faculty and<br />
administrative appointments, retirements from active service, designation of emeritus<br />
status, and other functions generally and customarily assigned to the Office of the<br />
Chief Executive and those which may be designated by the Board of Trustees.<br />
