REGISTRATION<br />
ACADEMIC REGULATIONS<br />
All <strong>student</strong>s must register at the beginning of each semester, whether they were in<br />
residence the preceding semester or not. Students are required to register at the<br />
<strong>University</strong> on the days designated for this activity. aNew <strong>student</strong>s will be advised<br />
regarding courses and registration procedures during orientation sessions at the<br />
beginning of each semester. Dates specified for new <strong>student</strong>s to register are listed in<br />
the <strong>University</strong> Calendar. All <strong>student</strong>s will report for registration as indicated in the<br />
<strong>University</strong> Calendar.<br />
Late Registration: Returning <strong>student</strong>s may be allowed late registration upon the<br />
payment of a late fee of $200.00, but no <strong>student</strong> will be permitted to register later<br />
than the time specified in the calendar without special permission.<br />
Changes in Registration: Students who find it necessary to change their program<br />
of study by dropping or adding a course after registration MUST make the change<br />
through the Registrar’s Office on forms provided for that purpose. For any such<br />
change, the <strong>student</strong> must obtain the permission of her/his mentor/advisor.<br />
All program change requests should be completed by the deadlines in the<br />
<strong>University</strong> Academic Calendar for the LAST DAY TO ADD A COURSE and<br />
LAST DAY TO DROP A COURSE for the applicable term. The <strong>University</strong>’s<br />
Academic Calendar is published in the <strong>University</strong> catalog and on the J.C.S.U. Web<br />
site (www.jcsu.edu – click on “Academics”). The calendar is also available from the<br />
Office of Council of Deans. The adding of courses must be completed before the<br />
time for making changes expires, unless there are extenuating circumstances,<br />
Changes in Address: Written communications to <strong>student</strong>s are sent to the <strong>student</strong>’s<br />
address of record. All address changes must be made in writing and submitted to the<br />
Office of the Registrar.<br />
Student Course Load and Excess Hours: The normal course load for <strong>student</strong>s is 15-<br />
16 credit hours. In the Summer Session, the maximum load is 9 credit hours.<br />
Maximum Load<br />
1. During the semester, a <strong>student</strong> may not enroll for more than 18 hours,<br />
unless that <strong>student</strong> has a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) overall or for the<br />
previous semester. Such <strong>student</strong>s may apply to enroll for additional credit<br />
hours not to exceed a total of 22.<br />
2. Any <strong>student</strong> who desires to enroll for more than 18 hours must have a<br />
3.0 overall GPA, obtain permission from her or his advisor or department<br />
chair, College Dean and the Council of Deans. Forms to enroll for more<br />
than 18 hours may be obtained in the office of the Council of Deans.<br />
