Marion “Butch” MacCuaig is a Palm Desert resident with multiple homes and a private collection of custom and collector cars, motorcycles and big wheel bikes. His huge self-built show room, which he unassumingly calls a “garage”, is truly a thing of beauty with carpeting and floor lighting leading you through the playful path of neon lights, signs, collectable gas pumps and music. 29 His private residence is tucked away at the end of a street hugged by palm trees and a pool. Inside is an array of his many pieces of art which are mostly self done. First you see his block sculptures and internally illuminated sculpture podiums. Then the nine foot ceiling fan that he designed and installed hanging below the beautiful wood ceiling he made from flooring. The moon reflection artwork that you see throughout the home is of course hand made by the Man of Imagination. Daughter, Michele Palm Fan Among his designs and products are: • A recreational product that you sit on and are pulled behind a boat. • Supplements that help maintain prostate health. • Expansion joints for railroad tracks • SOS Helium filled balloon, with belt attachment • Realistic art work made by hand • Jesus plaque production • Instant alarm for home protection • Slip-on Fan Blades • Sun Tan Lotion, which bears the name of “Palm Tan” (selftanning) This man of distinction was a high school wrestler and worked 35 years as a union plumber and construction contractor. He played baseball and won a bronze medal at the “World Senior Games” in St George Utah. (We guess he does it all.) Butch has an impressive gun collection and we’ve heard he never misses his mark. He loves to go to car shows and auctions. He admires car guys, such as the ‘King of Kustomizers’ , George Barris, from whom he acquired a motorcycle. He is now personally customizing a ‘41 Chevrolet. In his social life he seems to be single- yet attached. A good friend, Ellie (a class act herself), would agree. “The guys like to talk and listen to him. The gals like to be in his presence. For the man who used to be called the “Little Guy”, he is definitely making his mark and now continues living the good life.” He was born in Spokane Washington and moved to Tacoma where he lived most of his life. He married a wonderful gal named Evie. He has two beautiful daughters, Michele and Melissa, and now has two cherished grandchildren, Hannah and Aiden. Hannah is a college bound intellect and Aidan a multiple sport athlete. As for son-in-laws, they are both named Sean. One works for the government, the other is a county executive who is a permanent member of the band, Rock Slide. Now back to the Man of Imagination. He is known for his great personality and generosity. Did we forget to say that he is an Inventor? After 30 years of marriage he became divorced and moved to California. He settled in Palm Desert where he thought he would be a ‘Mister Fix It’. One day while pondering a ceiling fan, he decided they needed a better look. He designed and patented slip-on blades that fit almost any ceiling fan, thereby augmented the style without having to do any electrical work. After selling them at the College of the Desert Street Fair, he flew to Philadelphia and showed his new invention on QVC. They sold out 5 times and then magazines took his product from there.
