Q. WHAT SIGNIFICANCE DOES YOUR PROPERTY HAVE TO THE
MAIDSVILLE, WEST VIRGINIA AREA?
A. Both the property and farmhouse have historic significance and are of
integral importance to the Maidsville community. Specifically, the property
was once owned by Josephus R. Everly. We first learned about Mr.
Everly during the extensive renovation of the farmhouse. While working,
we discovered writing on a wooden beam, “18.78. J.R. Everly.” Exhibit C,
Picture of J.R. Everly Signature. Through curiosity, we began researching
Mr. Everly and learned that he built the “mansion” we were carefully
restoring. See Exhibit B. We also discovered that, like many people in
the Maidsville area, Mr. Everly was a farmer. In 1848, however, Mr.
Everly built the first tannery in Maidsville. See The Everly Family of
Monongalia County, West Virginia and Kentucky (Sandra Everly Collins).
This tannery gives Mr. Everly the distinction of being .the first person to
bring industry to Maidsville, West Virginia. Id.
Based on my research, Mr. Everly was a decendent of the first Justice of
the Peace in Monongalia County, who also served in the Revolutionary
War. Veracity and honor were traits which this family lived by. In fact, one
author wrote that Mr. Everly was “a very prominent citizen of Cass District.
His integrity of character won the esteem of all, for his views however
variant from others were never expressed in a manner designed to evince
than an honestpurpose to arrive the very&th?” Id. Perhaps
