The CACNR hosted a public meeting on March 8 with the
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to discuss Area
Navigation (RNAV). RNAV is a method of Instrument Flight
Rules (IFR) navigation that allows an aircraft to choose any
course within a network of satellites. This method can conserve
flight distance and reduce both congestion and aircraft noise
while allowing flights into airports without beacons. The FAA is
presently determining RNAV routes for Denver International
Airport (DIA), including the nearby airports of Centennial and
Rocky Mountain Metro. FAA changes to the RNAV routes
could cause planes from Centennial Airport to fly higher than
DIA planes which will create less noise in affected
neighborhoods. Stay tuned for updates from the CACNR on
this and other important airport noise issues.
I congratulate the CACNR on their recognition by the
National Organization to Insure a Sound-Controlled
Environment (NOISE) with the Betty Ann Krahnke
Community of the Year Award for 2010. This award is
presented to a local government or community partnership that
has made extraordinary efforts on behalf of their citizens in
aviation noise pollution mitigation. Congratulations to the
CACNR for this prestigious recognition. Thank you for your
dedication to improve the quality of life of our communities
