Ship Maitland comming [sic] into Malta 1835. Signed l.r., titled<br />
and dated below. Watercolor on paperboard, 17 3/4 x 22 in., in a<br />
later molded wood frame. Condition: Light toning, scattered foxing,<br />
scratches, light moisture stain.<br />

Portrait of America’s Cup Racing Yacht America with Distant<br />
Steamer and Ship. Unsigned, vessel identified on the bow. Oil on<br />
canvas, the back of the canvas bears the stamp of a New York City<br />
artist supply firm “COUPIL & CO.,” 22 x 30 in., in a period molded<br />
gilt-gesso frame. Condition: Minor minute paint losses in water,<br />
craquelure, surface grime.<br />
Note: On August 22, 1851, the racing yacht America was the first to<br />
win the international sailing trophy now known as the America’s Cup.<br />
She won by eighteen minutes in the Royal Yacht Squadron’s 53-mile<br />
regatta around the Isle of Wight.<br />
