SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER APRIL 15, 2012
Easter Sunrise Mass
SAINT PASCAL PARISH
Page 2
EASTER GRATITUDE
Last week we celebrated the most important days of our Christian lives as we recalled the Passion, Death and Resurrection
of Jesus. These days brought about our salvation and the hopes of eternal life. Our Catholic liturgies attempt to bring into
those moments in a way that will focus our thoughts and spirits. The liturgies in and of themselves are quite beautiful. But
making them “our own” through the work of local parishioners helps us to humanize these liturgies which are full of mystery.
Special thanks go to Bishop Manz who lead us in our parish Reconciliation service. One very beautiful moment was our children’s
choir’s version of Psalm 137 which was especially haunting and moving. For the rest of the week, choir rehearsals,
church decoration and liturgical minister practices were constant. I am very grateful to Father Dore, Deacons Dorgan and
Stubstad and Beau Surratt, our Music & Liturgy Director who did such fine work. All the liturgical ministers pitched in to help.
I also want to thank the office staff and our office volunteers who fielded countless requests and questions as Easter approached.
It was most gratifying to see such great crowds at the Masses. Each liturgy seems to have had significantly larger crowds
than last year. We may not see some of them again until Christmas but I think many of us put our best foot forward to make
people not only feel welcome but more importantly, to help them know the holiness of these most holy days.
MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS NOW!
Friday, April 27 will be the day for our Parish and School Annual Saint Pascal Award Dinner and Silent Auction. Come and
join us as we enjoy great food, music and friends. The highlight of the evening will be the presentation of this year’s Saint
Pascal Award to Norm and Christine Hege for their many contributions to the life of our parish. Call the office at 773-725-
7641 and make your reservations now!
DID YOU NOTICE THE UPDATE?
With all the excitement of Easter, you may not have noticed that the Our Faith, Our Future/Annual Catholic Appeal towers
have been updated. So far, for 2012, the people of Saint Pascal have pledged over $92,000! Our hope is that each family
would donate at least $300 over the course of the year. If everyone pitches in, we could receive a rebate of $100,000 --- if
everyone pitches in. Thank you for your kind help and loving support.
SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
SAINT PASCAL CONFERENCE
We know that the poor are with us, but we
often doubt their circumstances just as Thomas
doubted Jesus’ appearance to the other
disciples. When Jesus appeared He shattered the boundaries
of locked doors and doubt. We may lock our hearts
and eyes against the poor, but they are there...with their
wounds, their scars, and their thorns. They are the incarnation
of the crucified and Risen Christ. Every time we turn
our backs on any suffering or despairing person, we turn
away from Christ. Remember that what we do to the least
of our brothers and sisters, we do unto Him. This is the
spirit of Vincentians and of those who support
our activities in St. Pascal parish. We
are grateful to be members of this Faith
Community.
STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION
“The community of believers was of one heart and mind
and no one claimed that any of his possessions was his
own.” - ACTS 4:32
Stewardship calls us to recognize, just as the early Christians
did, that none of our possessions is our own. All that
we have – our health, our education, our skills, our talents,
and our livelihood – are gifts from God. The natural reaction
when someone gives you a gift is to want to give something
back. What do you give back to God?
