Interpreter Services<br />
Deaf or Foreign Language<br />
<strong>North</strong> <strong>Memorial</strong> will provide American Sign Language or foreign language<br />
interpreters for patients and patient’s companions, free <strong>of</strong> charge.<br />
MARTTI – (My Accessible Real-Time Trusted Interpreter)<br />
MARTTI is a video relay machine that <strong>of</strong>fers quick access to interpreter<br />
services. The interpreter, on a live monitor, is able to see into the room<br />
to assist the health care team, patient and family with their discussion <strong>of</strong><br />
important medical issues.<br />

Patients and Companions<br />
DVDs in American Sign Language (ASL) with English captioning<br />
Our iNvision Patient TV system <strong>of</strong>fers ASL videos with English captioning<br />
on the following topics: <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Care</strong> Directives, Notice <strong>of</strong> Privacy<br />
Practices, Patient Information and Services, Patients <strong>Rights</strong> and<br />
Responsibilities, and Services for Deaf and Hard <strong>of</strong> Hearing Patients. Not<br />
all patient rooms are equipped with iNvision at this time. If your room<br />
is not equipped with iNvision, please contact your nurse for alternative<br />
viewing options.<br />
Sound Amplification (Pocket Talkers)<br />
Pocket Talkers are available free <strong>of</strong> charge for hard <strong>of</strong> hearing patients<br />
or companions to use while at <strong>North</strong> <strong>Memorial</strong>. If you would like one for<br />
long term use after discharge, they are available for purchase at our<br />
<strong>Health</strong> & <strong>Care</strong> Shop located on the first floor <strong>of</strong> the medical center, near<br />
the <strong>North</strong>Way Deli & Grill.<br />
Door Knockers<br />
These devices attach to your door and send out a burst <strong>of</strong> light when<br />
someone knocks on the door. This way, you know when someone would like<br />
to enter your room. Let your nurse know if you want a door knocker installed.<br />
TTY/TDD<br />
All hospital rooms at <strong>North</strong> <strong>Memorial</strong> have analog phone lines that allow<br />
patients and their companions to use the TTY/TDD relay service.<br />
