Implementation Phase
1. Implementation Phase Objective
a) The objective of the implementation phase is to obtain employment that is, in
the WCB’s opinion, suitable, accessible, sustainable and maximizes the
Worker’s earning capacity and supports claim closure.
b) Suitable means the employment:
i. is consistent with the Worker’s abilities (mental and/or physical);
ii. can accommodate the Worker’s restrictions (mental and/or physical); and
iii. utilizes the Worker’s transferable skills and education.
c) Accessible means the employment:
i. is reasonably accessible within the Worker’s locale or may be with
appropriate relocation;
ii. considers if the Worker lives in a major urban centre or a rural area; and
iii. considers if the Worker has a history of traveling to work.
d) Sustainable means the employment is consistent with the Worker’s abilities
and restrictions (mental and/or physical) so that the Worker can safely work in
that position indefinitely.
e) Maximizes earning capacity means the employment:
i. represents the maximum amount of earnings possible given the Worker’s
capabilities;
ii. reflects the rate and hours of the Worker prior to the accident; and
iii. has the potential for wage increases.
f) Claim closure means the employment provides an opportunity for the Worker
to be re-established in gainful employment.
2. Implementation Phase Admission Criteria
a) The Contractor shall ensure that the general admission criteria as outlined in
Section IV Admission Criteria continue to be met, and that the following
criteria are met prior to commencing the implementation phase:

c) The Worker has achieved diagnostic and medical closure.
