2.4. Working approach<br />

The first day of the workshop included plenary and keynote presentations and a round table<br />

discussion where key stakeholders participated (EC, EUCAR, CLEPA, FIA, public<br />

authorities, Transport Canada etc.).<br />

2. Design Scenarios and HMI meta-functions: Towards an Adaptive Integrated HMI by<br />

Holger Kussmann, BOSCH.<br />

3. Evaluation of Adaptive Integrated HMIs by Klaus Bengler, BMW.<br />

4. Driver-vehicle-environment modeling in <strong>AIDE</strong> by Carlo Cacciabue, JRC.<br />

Presentations from attendees outside <strong>AIDE</strong> consortium<br />

5. The European Statement of Principles: Current Status and next steps by Valerie<br />

Moutal, EC/IST.<br />

6. Road Safety Requires Smart Standards for Intelligent Driver Information and<br />

Assistance Systems by Peter Burns, Transport Canada.<br />

7. Development of the Driver Advocate by Mike Gardner, Motorola.<br />

The second day, participants were divided into three parallel tracks each one with different<br />

morning and evening sessions. Presentations on <strong>AIDE</strong> scenarios and functions as well as the<br />

<strong>AIDE</strong> results on architectural concepts and HMI designs were presented and discussed in the<br />

first session. In the second one, studies on the behavioral adaptation within the concept of<br />

<strong>AIDE</strong> was presented, whereas the third session addressed Nomadic devices issues (safety<br />

integration) and took place only in the morning. An exhibition of <strong>AIDE</strong> posters took also<br />

place during the workshop.<br />

3. Workshop Proceedings<br />

3.1. <strong>AIDE</strong> Technical Overview<br />

Presenter: Johan Engström, <strong>AIDE</strong> User Forum, Cologne 2005-03-15.<br />

The discussion began with a short summary of the basic facts of the <strong>AIDE</strong> project.<br />

• <strong>AIDE</strong> is an integrated project on automotive human-machine interaction (HMI);<br />

• It started on March 2004 and will continue for 4 years;<br />

• The total budget is 12.5 ME with 7.3 ME EU funding;<br />

• The project currently has 28 partners with a rough 50/50 industry-academia split;<br />
