Master Plan
Contribution to the Local
Economy
We currently pay typical business rates to
the council to operate our airport. These
rates contribute towards the cost of local
authority services such as the police and fire
service.
Our airport contributes towards the local
economy in terms of Gross Value Added
(GVA) [20] . Each business that is directly
and indirectly employed by our airport also
contributes in terms of GVA. As activity at
our airport increases the GVA contribution
will also increase.
Business rates are calculated in terms of
a rateable value. This value is based on
factors such as the size of the premises
and how they are used. As throughput at
our airport grows and the size of our airport
facilities increase, we expect to pay higher
business rates. These payments contribute
towards the provision of essential services
within Thanet.
