$ Tender Heart’s dam - Tess 76N - is very special to us. She has been Grand
Champion Pasture Pair at the Kansas State Fair both times we took her. She was
awarded Dam of Merit by AGA in 2008. She has had three heifers; the first one we
shared by consigning her to the Pick of the Herds in 2005 going to Todd Hodges of
NC. The second we kept for our herd, as was the plan for Tender Heart. However we
decided we need to consign the very best so here she is.
This pen of bred Balancer females is very comparable to the heifers
we consigned in the 2007 Pick of the Herds sale that averaged
$3700. We are one of the longest running consignors to this annual
event - going back to the years of the Kansas Beef Expo Sales in
Wichita back in the 1990s. We have always considered it a great
honor to be invited back to share our herd in this event, so this year
we are bringing what we feel is the heart of our program. All McCabe
and Two Step Ranch cattle will be eligible to show in the 2009 Heartland
Classic in Des Monies, IA. The ranches offer free 5 night hotel
packages to any junior exhibitor who purchases a Heartland Classic
entry in 2008 for 2009 exhibitation.
$ XXB Miss Legend is the very top January heifer calf from the Boehler program.
Legend daughters have fast become some of the most sought after cows in the
Angus and Balancer worlds. They are the kind that work. 825U is moderate, stout
made, easy fleshing, with just enough eye appeal to make you want to show her.
Her dam is a great Extra Wonderful daughter who pays her way every year.
Balancer females like this have the most flexibility going for the Gelbvieh breed.
You can breed them to a Purebred or Balancer or even Angus. How can you go
wrong?
$ A great opportunity to own a T510 Balancer heifer. Most everyone rants and raves
about the T510 daughters and with Echo on the bottom side of this pedigree makes
this heifer a cow prospect deluxe. I have been helping Dr. Schawang merchandise
his cattle for the past 12 years and I have never had anyone who purchased one not
like them better with time.
$ Sadie posted an outstanding 118 weaning weight ratio out of a first calf heifer that
come to Post Rock on a group of heifers we purchased at the 2006 GAIN Fall Female
Festival from Southeast Community College. Since her dam is a 2-year-old and she
has only been on grain for about 6 weeks prior to the sale - she’ll be a little greener
than most of the heifers selling but there is no denying she’s got that great neck
extension coupled with the natural base width and extra style and presence to win
the futurity money and then become a great cow.
Pick of the Herds sale. Miss Reba 22R is a moderate framed, big ribbed, functional,
quiet cow that is a joy to own. Kyle’s cows had too many heifer calves so he is
parting with one to pay for developing the others. She will make a nice Balancer
UTURITY HEIFER
PROGRAM
This program has been implemented to encourage the Jr. Members in promoting Gelbvieh at various shows as well as to offer the
Jr. Members a chance to receive a payback for their efforts. This year there is an estimated cash award of $3000 with the option to
double the award money with a credit at the next state sponsored female sale. Award dollars will be paid out according in the
below listed manner. This futurity contest consists of three ways to win award money, The Joint Kansas/Nebraska Jr. Spring Show,
the Nebraska State Fair and the Kansas State Fair.
1. To be eligible:
a. All Open and bred heifers selling in the 2008 Kansas/Nebraska “Pick of the Herds” Female sale are futurity eligible
for the 2009 futurity award money. This ruling on bred heifers selling will allow Jr. Members to show them as a cow/calf pair with a
bull or heifer calf at side. Regarding ¾ blood females, if shown as a Balancer female at the spring show, these females will
continue to show as Balancers at the following shows. Status needs to be determined at time of entry to the Kansas/Nebraska
Joint Spring Show.
b. The female must be titled in the Jr. Member’s name only and the Jr. Member must be a member of either the Kansas
Jr. Gelbvieh Association or the Jr. GAIN Association. Memberships can be purchased at the time of the show.
c. Futurity program year runs from the 2008 Kansas/Nebraska Pick of the Herds Female Sale until the 2009
Kansas State Fair final Futurity show. Females sold in this sale will only have one program year of eligibility. A new group of
females will be sold at the next designated futurity sale for the next program year.
2. Promotion of the Female/Participation in shows and Payout:
a. Showing at the Kansas/Nebraska Jr. Association Spring Show (Futurity Show): Payout of 60% of the total cash award
with an option to double the award amount with a credit at the next State sponsored female sale. (Award money will be split 50%
Gelbvieh females and 50% Balancer females) Females will be show according what is designated on the entry form. Regarding
¾ blood females, if the female is shown in the Balancer futurity class, she will only be eligible for the money designated for the
Balancers. Two Futurity Classes (Gelbvieh and Balancers) will be shown and the payout will be the following for both classes.
i. First in Futurity Class: Cash award of 60% of the cash award money designated for this show to be split equally
between the Gelbvieh and Balancer classes with the option to double it as a credit at the next state sponsored female sale.
ii. Second in Futurity Class: Cash award of 30% of the cash award designated for this show to be split equally
between the Gelbvieh and Balancer classes with the option to double it as a credit at the next state sponsored female sale.
iii. Third in Futurity Class: Cash award of 10% of the cash award designated for this show to be split equally
between the Gelbvieh and Balancer Classes with the option to double it as a credit at the next state sponsored female sale.
iv. All Futurity heifers are required to show in the Jr. Show.
b. Showing at the Nebraska State Fair (Futurity Show): Payout of 15% of the total cash award with an option to double the
award amount with a credit at the next State sponsored female sale.
i. First in Futurity Class: Cash award of 60% of the cash award money designated for this show with the option to
