PROFESSIONAL WORK EXPERIENCE
1995 to present Associate Professor, School of Social Work, University of Nebraska
at Omaha (UNO).
Teach courses in social policy, macro practice, social justice, and
research methods (have received outstanding student evaluations);
advise graduate students; collaborative research work in sexual
problems and mentoring programs; external examiner for four PhD
dissertations for University of Mangalore, and University of Kerala,
1990 to Present Member of the Women's Studies Faculty at UNO. My course on
social policy is approved for a minor in Women's Studies.
1989 – 1995 Assistant Professor, School of Social Work, UNO.
Co-coordinated Special Studies and taught course on program
evaluation, institutional racism sexism, research methods, social
development; liaison work on social work practicum placements;
advised graduate and undergraduate students; advisor to graduate
student research projects; set up a grade-monitoring database for
the School in 1989-93.

1982-1983 Conducted a qualitative study on the resettlement of Indo-Chinese
refugees in Toledo, Ohio that dealt with the problems of differential
adaptation, welfare participation, voluntary agency support and
mutual support organizations among the refugees.
1977-1982 Assistant Professor, The Madras School of Social Work, India.
Taught courses in community development, juvenile delinquency
and correctional administration, social legislation and history and
philosophy of social work in India; provided practicum supervision
to graduate students in community settings, welfare and
correctional agencies; supervised student research projects;
organized two in-service training programs for police and
correctional personnel.
1980 Filed a class-action suit against the Government of Tamil Nadu
state in the Supreme Court of India preventing the forcible eviction
of pavement-dwellers in Madras, India. The Supreme Court
eventually ruled that the state government could not evacuate the
residents without providing alternate accommodation.
1975-1977 Community Organizer, Mukka Welfare Society, Mukka, India.
Organized the untouchables in order to secure government welfare
programs such as sites and services, housing, loans, debt relief,
abolition of bonded labor; organized agricultural tenants and
landless laborers to create an awareness of land reform legislation
and to deal with bureaucratic procedures of land assignment;
conducted a socioeconomic survey of condition of a village;
engaged in organizing cooperative society for small farmers;
organized a basket makers’ cooperative for the untouchable tribe of
the Koragas in Mukka.
