Enrichment: Building and
enhancing key skills
Mohonasen offers a variety of enrichment opportunities for students
that are designed to enhance students’ knowledge, skills and
motivations so they are prepared for higher-level coursework.
For example, the Math Olympiad program gives students in grades
3-6 the opportunity to “play” math games and expand their math
skills, and the Math Counts program helps those in grades 7 and 8
build their math literacy skills. Students also participate in competitions
like Future City, the Department of Energy Science Bowl, and
Odyssey of the Mind – all of which challenge students to complete a
task or tasks using important teamwork, critical thinking, creative
and academic skills.
In addition, district schools offer students enrichment programs
that help to open their eyes to the future. For example, during the
annual 8th Grade Career Day, students explore a variety of careers
and examine their educational and occupational goals.
