Literacy: A solid, critical foundation<br />
Core academic areas must have a literacy component. This is what <strong>Mohonasen</strong><br />
educators believe.<br />
For this reason, district resources have been focused on infusing reading, writing,<br />
listening and speaking skills into all subject areas. This effort has been underway at<br />
<strong>Mohonasen</strong> for some time, but has recently gained momentum with the introduction<br />
and integration of the Common Core Learning Standards.<br />
Teachers are participating in ongoing training and curriculum writing to develop<br />
units that apply things like math and science skills to real-life situations, which<br />
almost always require some kind of reading, writing, listening or speaking<br />
skills. Teachers are working with specialists to integrate literacy skills into the<br />
techniques and strategies taught in each subject area.<br />
