Residential Care
UnitingCare Ageing is looking at synergies between its
residential facilities and community care programs.
UnitingCare Ageing NSW.ACT currently operates 92
residential aged care facilities, which provide care for
almost 5,000 residents. These facilities are located across
metropolitan Sydney, rural NSW and in the ACT. In many
cases they include respite care and palliative care provision,
and in some cases, dementia specific facilities. We are
positioned to receive full building certification for our
facilities in 2005.
The nature of residential care is changing, with shorter stays
in high care facilities, due to clients entering residential
care at older ages and mostly from acute hospitals.
Increasingly UnitingCare Ageing is looking at synergies
between its residential facilities and community care
programs. The South-Eastern Region, for example, has
developed a Master concept for Lake View at Shellharbour
– a 100 place aged care facility that will augment the self
care facilities on that site.
Another example of integration is Goonellabah Village at
Lismore, which provides a high level of support and care
that bridges the gap between community and residential
hostel/nursing home care.
During the year work commenced on the redevelopment
of Jarman Hostel, a 79 place, $13M three stage
redevelopment of the North Coast Region’s oldest facility.
Stage one was completed in July 2005. A significant
factor in this redevelopment project was that no residents
were displaced and every effort was made to minimise
disruption to everyday life within the hostel during the
construction period.
